Memorial Day Patriotic Games and More for Children and Adults

Summer Fun Picnic Games with Patriotic Flair

Robin Vinci
There are lots of cool games you can get your group party into for Memorial Day or 4th of July. A few games may require you to use masks, some wigs, some old photographs and other music. Choose your favorite from below and celebrate!

Put the Hat on Uncle Sam

This can be fun whether your guests have had a few drinks or not. You can spin them and see if they can pin the hat on Uncle Sam. Just draw Uncle Sam on a poster board and make a Hat with paper attached to a tack. You don't need to be a kid to play this one. But, kids can play too!

Memorial Day Picture Game

This one is probably for family members. Find old photos of family members who have passed away. Photo copy and cut the faces out. See if family members can identify who the photo is of. A great fun way to remember family members. You can also do this with past presidents if you wish.

Patriotic Bingo

I've seen these in stores. Instead of numbers there are photos of flags, George Washington, Betsy Ross, The Statue of Liberty and more. Easy to do and everyone can play. You probably can even make a version yourself or print one out online.

Name That Patriotic Tune

It's a lot like Name That Tune. Go online and choose about 5 notes from various patriotic songs that you can upload. Divide into teams and see who can name that tune quickest. You can get different versions of the same songs and see if it fools anyone.

Who Am I?

This requires you to buy some items like wigs, hats and anything else that fits a patriotic character. Put them all in a box and have guests take turns pulling a patriotic name out of a hat. They will have to dress and act like the patriotic figure whos name they pulled. Maybe George Washington cutting down a cherry tree or Thomas Jefferson write the Declaration of Independence. It is lots of fun so get creative with names and ideas. Even recent presidents can be fun. A cigar is a great prop for President Bill Clinton.

Others

If these fail, try some old-fashioned picnic games like a 3-legged Race. This really gets everyone involved. Bocce ball, horse shoes or darts are always good standbys especially for an older crowd.

Croquet takes some time to set up, but it can be very popular as is badminton and volleyball.

I often seem to have a group that plays Frisbee or wiffle ball with the kids. Hot potato using a beanbag is fun as is a water balloon toss. For the kids buy some items for bubble blowing materials and see who can blow-up the biggest one.

No matter which games you choose they are destined to be a hit. Make the holiday party your best one yet!!
