Men and women who died for us to be free, so we could believe.
Wars have come and wars have gone, but their memory still marches on.
Memorial Day for past battles far and near, one true vision remains clear.
They fought and spilled their blood, while at home their family's shed their tears.
Where would we be today if they had not given their lives away?
Where would we be if they had not paid a price, the ultimate sacrifice?
Men and women who suffered things most of us only have seen on a movie screen.
Memorial Day for those who fought their lives were lost,
But the battles were still won at any cost.
From battles fought in foreign land, to those fought right here were we stand.
Some lost their lives, but still more came home to find a familiar world the hoped to have known.
Times have changed and wars are still waged, but their duty is still the same.
They put on their uniform, and leave their only home, to fight for the rights and honor of someone they may never know.
They risked their lives; some paid the price, just for you and me to be free.
It's Memorial Day another day of work for you and me, but for soldiers and veterans it's a time to grieve.
Some watched close friends die in the blink of an eye; some had to watch friends suffer and be burned alive.
Some still share scars, and missing limbs, constant reminders of the death of their friends.
Can you name a soldier or even name three, then say a prayer for them, and say thank you for me.
Their job isn't easy, their job isn't fun, and it's never pleasant when your work requires firing a gun.
So this Memorial Day honor a veteran, for you and for me.
Find a soldier and give them a hug.
Thank them, feed them and honor them with love.
Pray over them for protection from above.
May they stay safe when push comes to shove.
