The last Monday in May
my family at hand
on this still day
we followed the band
my family at hand
on this still day
we followed the band
playing "Taps" on a trumpet
what a somber song
it was chilly and wet
as we marched along
watching the poppies dance
on the graves all around
veterans in trance
not making a sound
remembering those gone
family and friends
in came the dawn
diversity blends
the flag at half mast
from dawn till noon
the people were vast
marching at a cheerfuller tune
