Memorial Day Poem

Peter Flom
Today we remember
To shop for new appliances.
Go to the beach.
Or stay home on Monday.

Today we remember
To watch cars race around ovals
Go see a parade
Or see fireworks.

Today was intended
To remember something else
How many of us
Remember what?

Those who died or served
Protecting us and ours
Deserve more remembrance
Than there can be in 24 hours.

So very true. It seems that 24 hours is not enough time to remember. It should be done everyday.

I'm on your side, Peter. Excellent write.

I agree....too often the 'celebrations' overshadow the true meaning of the day.

Nicely said Peter. It's a shame that the real reason for occasions like this gets buried in family outings or the need to save money shopping.
