Memories of Central Junior High School

Military Kid Memories

Mr. Chip's

I've gotten older

Not the youngster I was such a long time ago in Altus

Now with my progressive glasses

I strain ever so slightly

To read the print and the years that I attended CJHS

Also known as Central

Or Central Jr. High School

I can still see in my mind

A little of Central

Sitting in Art Class

6th hour Art with Mrs. Diltz

She will never know what a life long impression that she made on my life

And I still draw

I never became famous

But I was a force to be reckoned with in my own way

then I remember shop and drafting 8th grade with Mr. Mefford

Hey I didn't forget about you either Principal Kirby

Like Mr. Hollands OPUS we your charges have gone out into the world

Hopefully we have made it better I hope I have

Most of all aside from all the people I remember seeing faces in my mind

No longer being able to recall names

No nothing is wrong with me that's a blessing

Now a days they call it having too much to do and think about

But as I type this the memories come back

The PEP assemblies in the GYM

The paddlings and man they hurt but moreso your feelings

The skits, drumming on the trash-cans

Dodge-ball, the Astrologer Jean Dixon saying that Altus OK would be blown off the map by a tornado

I remember a guy singing a song that will stay with me and we the Jr. high alumni of Central Junior High school:

MEMORIES OF CENTRAL....CENTRAL JUNIOR HIGH...MEMORIES OF CENTRAL AND GROWING IN THE SUN....GROWING IN THE SUN

(This poem is written/prose is written in honor, homage and a testament to one of my former schools, sadly it burned to the ground we never found who did it, we were fortunate to be accepted into our rivals schools SOUTHEAST and NORTHEAST our colors at Central were red & white so SOUTHEAST adopted them for their senior Cheerleaders I attended Central from 1974 to the Bicentennial I thank all of CJS and Mr. Morey I was a poet and did not know it.)

I was born in 1961 the same year as construction began on the infamous Berlin Wall. I was actually born on McConnells Air Force base(where the movie "The Day After" was made the movie was about the aftermath...  View profile
