Memories of Old College Chums on Halloween

A Halloween Haiku-style Poem

Vanessa Stewart
Freddy and Jason
Were once my college roommates
They loved mac-n-cheese

We would stay up late
Watching sappy John Hughes flicks
Loved Pretty in Pink!

Sadness tears through me
Freddy and Jason's mugshots
Confusion sets in

Serial killers
Says the local media
I don't believe it!

I will not forget
Us all volunteering time
At the orphanage

Halloween parties
Making costumes for the kids
Bobbing for apples

Freddy taught the kids
The magic of fake blood stains
Little hands dripping

Jason loved to show
Off his pumpkin carving skills
Strange Jack-o'-lantern!

Time does not dampen
Memories of charity
Children's eyes smiling

It was a mistake -
Mistaken identity!
Relief overcomes

My buddies are free!
Jason Smith and Freddy Barnes
Are not murderers

They are just my friends
From my old-time college home
Near Camp Crystal Lake

Holidays always have a way of triggering memories... some good and others not so much so.

Creepy... and fun to read. Serial killers are among us, great idea to plant in one's head before going trick-or-treating in the dark :-)
