You have been hugged and kissed affectionately by a woman; a man approaches you at the party and you failed to recognize him; you have totally forgotten about the new idea which you developed for your presentation lately; it is driving you insane that you cannot remember these important details. You only wish is what if only your brain worked like a memory computer.

Do you have a poor memory or are you ageing? Studies have suggested that people over the age of 35 suffers from these sort of minor problems. With age, we all go through some mental changes. But we all ignore the techniques to improve our memory. Memories do change with age, but it has also been proved by many people who remember everything correctly as they used to do when they were young. Doctors say that the memory power starts fading away with age but with proper training the memory can be improved. Some of the factors that disturb the memory are age related but other factors are not. Here are some steps to improve your memory.

First off, stop complaining. You might say that some old men can easily recollect what they have done decades back, but they often fail to remember what they have done the day before. It may happen that you went to your drawing room and with all excitement turn on the TV but then you were unable to recall what you really wanted to watch. This can happen due to memory overload. To overcome this, write it on a piece of paper or just use some memory tricks. But with age you have to give yourself more time to remember things.

Lack of memory skills can break your self confidence, which in turn can cause anxiety and other problems. To improve the power of your memory, you should do relaxing exercises on a regular basis. If you feel that you won't be able to remember a particular thing, then leave it. It is of no use by giving so much of stress on it. You might have got good grades in Math during your school days but how much Math you will actually remember at the age of 40 if you are a lawyer by profession?

To keep the memory sharp, you have to constantly stimulate yourself intellectually. Once it is idle, you are gone. Monopoly, crosswords, anagrams, scrabble etc. can help you to improve your memory. Do read on random topics too. Motivation is important factor to improve your memory skills. You only remember those things, which you actually want to remember.

When adults are trying to memorize something, they need a peaceful environment unlike the young ones. Adults can be easily distracted with any external factors. Always pay attention to your surroundings. Use your emotions to improve your memory skills.
