Memory Loft Fiber Bed Review

Or, How I Finally Got a Good Nights Sleep!

Mare Coogan
The Memory Loft Fiber Bed is a relatively inexpensive mattress pad designed to promote a more comfortable and long lasting sleep. If you're longing for a good nights sleep try this.

Please consider the pros and cons of the Memory Loft Fiber Bed in making your decision:

Pros:

1. Thickness

The first thing I noticed about the Memory Loft fiber bed was how thick it was. I measured its dimensions and discovered it was at least 4 inches thick, about twice the size of the feather beds I had previously looked at. However, what really swayed me was when I sat down on one. The plushness of the Memory Loft fiber bed far outweighs the competition. This is mainly due to the quality of the fiber fill, unlike the others that I saw, although airy, just don't have the same support that this one does.

2. Comfortable

I compared several fiber and feather beds, from Sears to Macy's and found the Memory Loft fiber bed to be the most comfortable of all the ones I looked at. It had a bounciness to it that the others lacked. It was luxurious and soft and looked like it belonged in an upscale hotel. Once I tested it, which I did by stretching lengthwise on one of the beds in the store, I immediately began to relax. At this point I knew I was going to buy it, I just couldn't resist!

Even though I'm sure people were staring at me I had to see for myself how it was going to feel. It had to be comfortable and the only way to find that out was by trying it first hand. What I liked about it was how it supported my legs and back evenly, in all the right places. The comfort level really surprised me, it wasn't what I was expecting from a fiber bed!

3. Price

Although the Memory Loft fiber bed looked and felt pricey I was surprised to learn it was relatively inexpensive, approx. $100. No sticker shock. The fiber beds I had looked at ranged anywhere from $50 to $200. This particular one was sold at Macy's, which by the way has an extensive selection of quality bedding. For the price I couldn't get over how well made it was. It even had features you normally don't see in that price range, like corded edges to cover the mattress and baffle box construction. Definitely a good price for a quality product.

4. Lightweight

Since I had previously bought a feather bed I knew this time around I didn't want anything heavy. It can be murder, especially in the morning when you have to turn over a big old bulky feather bed. Which brings up a good point, all mattress pads start to shift eventually, even fiber beds. But the difference with the Memory Foam fiber bed is it's much easier to flip over and also redistribute the memory foam, which is what it's made of. It's definitely something to consider when trying to decide what to buy.

5. Thread count

The Memory Foam fiber bed also has a decent thread count, 233. The general consensus is the higher the thread count the more durable it's going to be. The highest I saw was in the 500 range and it was on one of the priciest feather beds. Since it was out of my price range I was more than happy to stick with 233. I had gone to a few other stores, like Sears and Kohl's and didn't see anything with a higher thread count than 100. Although it may seem like just another sales ploy to get you to buy it really does matter if you plan to have a fiber bed for a long time, especially if you want it to last.

Although I ended up with the Memory Foam fiber bed I think it's only fair to mention the cons also.

Cons:

1.Not as Durable

Not as durable as a good quality feather bed. I had my last feather bed for at least 15 plus years. I still have it!Although it's a little worn and has lost some feathers it's still usable. On the other hand, the Memory Foam fiber bed is expected on average to last only between 5 and 8 years. This is due to the fact it's made out of a synthetic material called fiber fill or the more common memory foam. They aren't as durable as the more natural duck and goose feathers that most feather beds are made out of.

2. Degree of thickness

They're never quite as thick as the best feather beds. Although I didn't see any feather beds that were thick in the store, in this case Macy's, I do know they exist. I've even slept on some in a few B&B's. Nothing quite compares to a thick and more natural mattress pad like a feather bed. My Memory Foam fiber bed is thick, but it doesn't compare to a feather bed I slept on awhile back that was 3 times as thick as this one. Because they're so pricey you usually only see them at upscale hotels,or as I said earlier B&B's. They are out there, but it's best to search online or in specialty stores rather than mainstream department stores.

3. Comfort

With thickness comes comfort, and although fiber beds are better built now than in the past they'll never truly be as comfortable as a really great quality feather bed. With quality usually comes thickness. There are limits to fiber beds, like my Memory Loft fiber bed, because of what it's made of, usually polyester and fiber fill or memory foam. Nothing can change that. It is what it is.

So there you have it folks, the pros and cons of owning a Memory Loft Fiber Bed.

I went with a fiber bed this time because of not only the price and but the quality too... and am now sleeping soundly because of it.
