It's that time of year where we like to celebrate our country's independence with good food, fun, and fireworks. Memphis always has lots of options for the family to enjoy July 4th. So get your sunscreen and your family in the car and roll to one of these events.

June 25, 2009
Somerville is having their Fourth of July event with a free concert from the Mid South Navy Band at the Fayette Ware South Football Field. There will be free cookies and lemonade available and fireworks will close the show. You will need to leave your pets and alcoholic beverages at home but you can bring your lawn chair and enjoy this event.

June 28, 2009
Bellevue Baptist Church is gearing up for the annual Starlight Spectacular. This event starts at 5pm and is free for everyone. There will be music from the Bellevue Orchestra and special guest "Big Daddy Weave". Blankets and picnics are welcome. There will be a huge fireworks display after dark. Keep in mind that pets and alcoholic beverages are prohibited from this event.

July 2, 2009
Come and be a part of a great children's event in Hernando that includes a picnic and parade at the Hernando Town Square by bringing your bikes, tricycles, pets, and wagons alive with it's best Fourth of July decorations. After the parade there will be a movie in the square that is free for all to attend. Event times are 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

July 3, 2009
The city of Millington will celebrate Independence Day at Navy Lake with music from the Navy Band and fireworks. You can bring a picnic, blankets, coolers, and lawn chairs. There will also be an area for the children to play. This fireworks display is always a big event in the city. Admission is free and it starts at 5pm.

Bartlett will have their Fireworks Extravaganza at the Bobby K. Flaherty Municipal Center starting at 6:30pm. There will be music from Bartlett Community Concert Band and John Angotti. There will be plenty of events to keep the kid's busy along with a car show for the adults to see.

The Independence Celebration for Collierville will be located at the H.W. Cox Park and starts at 5:30pm. There will be music from the Soulsations and activities for the kids. You can bring your lawn chairs and food will be sold in the parking lot area. Fireworks will start around 9:30pm.

July 4, 2009
The city of Munford will hold "Celebrate Independence" at the City Park on College Street. Entertainment will be provided by the Navy Band Mid South's contemporary entertainment ensemble "Freedom". This event is free and lawn chairs are welcome. Food can be purchased at the event. It starts at 7:30pm.

Come to Southaven to celebrate Independence Day at the Snowden Grove Park Amphitheatre. The entertainment for this event includes the Tim Davis Band, Cornerstone Church, and Getwell Road United Methodist Church. Pack up your picnics and lawn chairs and bring your family to enjoy this July 4th Celebration. Fireworks will sound off at around 9pm.

The city of Germantown will be having their annual "Family Fourth Celebration" at the Municipal Park. The first event of the day is at 9am when the Lions Club holds a Fishing Rodeo. The rest of the events start at 5pm when families are welcome to bring picnic baskets. There will be tons of fun things for the kids to enjoy. There will be musical entertainment the whole evening. Fireworks are set to go off around 9:10pm. This is a free event.

The Peabody Hotel is having "Fireworks on the 4th Rooftop Party" . This is the best place to be to see the fireworks downtown. Enjoy a summertime picnic buffet while listening to Ingram Hill entertain you. The event starts at 6pm. This is exclusive to ages 21 years and older and is not a free event. Please contact the Peabody Hotel for more info.

Tom Lee Park is the home of "Red, White, and Blues Celebration". There will be food, music, and lots of fireworks to entertain the family. You will see acts like Thought Train and Mercury Blvd. Things get started at 2pm with fireworks happening after 9pm. This is the biggest fireworks display in town.

As you can see there are tons of places to go celebrate responsibly and enjoy fireworks with you family. All events above are free except the Peabody Hotel event. Whatever event you attend remember to be safe and don't drive in you have been drinking.
