Men with a Crude Sense of Humor
When I was growing up in the fifties and sixties I never once came across a man with a crude sense of humor. Maybe the reason was that it wasn't something that was very accepted back then, or of course that I was a kid and they at least held their tongue around the youngins. I didn't take me long to figure out as I got older that this type of man was on my.... Let's say Do Not date list. I certainly don't want to be crude, then that would be the pot calling the kettle black.
Ahh, my wonderful twenties came along and along with that came the men with the crude sense of humor. You know, the ones that thinks the more twisted, and disgusting the joke, the more we're supposed to laugh, and be impressed by his world winning humor. I can't figure out for the life of me why he doesn't see the cringing on everyone's face when he's finished with what he calls humor. Are they all blind?
Where these types of men developed their unpalatable sense of humor has always been fascinating to me. Were they traumatized by a clown, while watching Wild Kingdom and glancing at hardcore porn? What other sensible explanation can there be? Do they feel validated that their humor is so special by the few other sick individuals that seem to relish in it?
I am definitely old enough and worldly enough to understand that there are many truly sick individuals in the world, but what I wish I could truly understand, is where they get the idea that most women want to hear this stuff, and the their belief that we actually like it. If they're trying to impress women, they are doing one poor job of it. I guarantee that most women aren't interested in whose dog did with what with whose mother. I mean really!
It makes me wonder if these types of men ever date? Better yet if they do what kind of women are they? I would almost think they would actually have to be worse then the men, as they at least have a choice about being around those kinds of men. The poor guys can't get away from themselves no matter how hard they try.
In the end it is a quandary why these men do what they do, and why they do it so badly. They say there is someone for everyone so I guess they do have a chance of finding true love. However, the only type of woman that would put up with this type of man wouldn't be worth having in the first place. I guess that definitely means they would absolutely be perfect for each other!

Post a CommentAs far as I'm concerned, people who are too sensitive to laugh at a crude twisted joke are boring. I find that anyone who gets offended by a joke is incredibly annoying, if I throw in a dead baby joke there is no reason to be offended.
Hannah, thank you for your article! You summed up quite nicely a question that I have been struggling with for years - what cave did these guys stumble out of? And how on earth do they ever get to date? Sadly, I have met too many men like this and it's always SUCH a turnoff. :( I guess all one can do is hope that at least a few of the good ones realize the mistake they're making sooner then later!
Eric: I'll tell you what, I 'll get a life, if you get some HELP! I'm sure there are women that enjoy that kind of stuff, no doubt, but I don't care to know them. I have a great sense of humor, and most of my articles contain humor, I just don't have to be disgusting about it. I guess that's the difference between, enjoyable humor told by someone with intelligence, and your type of humor. But good for you, there are plenty of offensive people in the world to keep you happy for a lifetime! Lucky YOU!

Who are you to speak for all women? You somehow act as if you have sat down with all the other women in the world had a cup of coffee and talked it over.

Let me submit this possibility to you..... you are an uptight idiot with no sense of humor and because you do not understand someones ability to have such a good sense of humor you put them down.
Maybe some guys tell their jokes to impress women, then again maybe some women bake their cookies to impress men.... and we think that is silly......

Melissa: Even before I became a counselor, I always went by the premise that what ever your problems are, you have no right to inflict your bad behavior on others and either hurt them, or make them uncomfotable. It's not about judging, it's about people being responsible for how they behave. If someone is shy, there are many other ways to deal with that rather than being crude, or making others uncomfortable. Behavior like that when you're a child or teanager is one thing, but it's rediculous in an adult.
Having known many men like this, as friends, in my lifetime--and learning "Do Not Judge"--I learned that most of these men are simply insecure. They do this for the attention, because they think no one will like them, otherwise. Sad, but true. Not all of them, but a lot, do it for this reason. Sometimes it helps to know WHY a person acts as they do, before you decide to simply think they're just being "rude, crude, and socially unacceptable".
Too many guys like this to be sure.

Ugh sadly, I know a ton of guys like this... and they really do it to impress women, when it really makes them look like idiots.
