"Irritable male syndrome" comes from having low testosterone. As men get older their testosterone levels decrease, making them more grumpy and moody. If you are a male under a lot of stress, that can lower your testosterone levels as well.
Another sign of lower testosterone levels in men is indicated by men who workout and find they are not seeing improvements in muscle mass even with working out every day. If it seems you tire easy and your energy level is low, that is another sign. Over doing it at the gym and not letting your body rest can make your testosterone levels plunge by 40%. It is better to lift heavier weights and fewer sets than it is to do more reps with fewer weights. Signs of over training are loss of muscle tone, insomnia, and feeling moody. To keep this from happening you must allow your body to rest in between workouts. If you workout one part of your body one day, the next day you will want to workout a different part of your body. The key is not to overexert you.
To raise your testosterone levels, try to incorporate some monounsaturated fats in your diet, like eating peanuts or peanut butter. Having 30% or more of fat in your diet, can raise your testosterone levels. Eating eggs helps keep the testosterone levels in your body up while eating meats can improve your testosterone. Eating vegetables and fruits can reduce the amount of fat in your body and build up your immune system. Fat contains enzymes that convert testosterone to estrogen. Having a large percentage of fat in your body can lower your testosterone.
One method of raising your testosterone is by watching how much alcohol you consume. When you consume a lot of alcohol, your body slows down its production of testosterone in order to remove the alcohol out of your system. Not getting enough sleep at night also plays a big part. If you get 8 hours of sleep a night, your testosterone levels will be higher than if you only get five or six hours sleep. Following these diet, exercise, and rest guidelines will help raise your testosterone levels making you feel better and more energetic.
