Men at Work Released in 1990 is Still a Decent Watch After All These Years
There's Crime, Confusion, Charlie and Emilio... That's All You Need for a Good Movie!
My thoughts
Although my fiance finds this hilarious, I just thought it was sort of ok. The humor just wasn't there for me. I'm sure this was funnier back in 1990 when it was released, but I just didn't find a lot of jokes in the movie. I can see how my fiance could find this funny, because there are some silly lines and silly events. Even though I didn't laugh much, it was interesting and I enjoyed the storyline. That is why it still gets 4 stars out of 5. Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen star as the garbage men who are in way over their heads. They work well as a team, but once again their jokes didn't always go over well with me.
What made the story a little less interesting was that we, as viewers, already know who the killers are and we already know why they killed the guy! This is all shown to us while Charlie and Emilio aren't looking. So it took away a little of the mystery. There was still enough to keep me entertained, as you didn't know how these two garbage men would figure it out... and if they would be able to prove anything before it was too late. The bad guys were ok. They didn't really add or subtract anything from the film, they were just sort of there. I think they tried to make them out to be morons, but they weren't that goofy so there weren't really any jokes to be found there. The only thing that might make you laugh with these guys is how confused they are about why these garbage men are taking their body!
The soundtrack is fun and provided the right tunes at the right times. You hear the classic 90s crime music during the chase scenes, then you have some fun music during the other times. I didn't recognize any of the songs but thought it was a well chosen soundtrack. Visually, this movie is so 90s. There are no special effects and the action scenes could have been taken out of almost any early 90s film. There's not much more I can say about this movie. My fiance will probably be disappointed that I didn't find it that funny, but I enjoyed it otherwise. I think it would be more humorous if you watched it with a group of people who were all in a silly mood. Maybe then the jokes would make you giggle a little more. If you are looking for a LOL comedy, you probably don't want this. But if you are satisfied with a 90s action/somewhat humorous film, then give Men at Work a try. Enjoy!!
