Mena Suvari Did Not "Pull a Britney" by Shaving Her Head

Mena did not "pull a Britney" by shaving her head. The actress was recently spotted out and about with a shaved head. The shaved head is an improvement over the heavy blunt bangs she previously had. She looks great! Her head has a nice shape and her chin/neck area is refined-looking. Though her previous style was unflattering, it wasn't as bad as the ratty post-extension hair that Britney shaved off.

She didn't make a video of the head-shaving, that I'm aware of. This means her drastic haircut is not a cry for help like the Britney shaved head. She doesn't have the tumultuous recent past that Britney does. No rehab stays, no paparazzi drama. Mena did divorce her husband of five years (Robert Brinkmann) in 2005, but that's nothing shocking.

She probably did it for a movie role. This puts her in Demi Moore/Natalie Portman territory, not Britney Spears territory. She is most remembered for playing a precocious teen in American Beauty, and this background puts her squarely in the "serious actress" category. If Mena shaved her head, she probably had a good reason for it. She was also on the successful HBO program Six Feet Under, playing an edgy performance artist.

Another benefit to the shaved head is that it gives her more of an edgy look. Mena had cultivated a look on the red carpet that was probably meant to be "old Hollywood" but came off as dowdy, with overly stiff hairstyles.

Another way in which Mena is not a Britney copycat is that she doesn't exhibit the same self-destructive behavior. Comparing any woman that shaves their head to Britney is a knee-jerk reaction. It has been long enough since Sinead O'Connor was in the spotlight that a shaved head now equals Britney Spears.

In Hollywood, hair extensions are plentiful and shaving your head is not the commitment it would be for, say, me. The hair most people associate Mena with probably wasn't all hers to begin with. For us commoners Jessica Simpson's line of hairpieces, called Hair U Wear, can be used to enhance what you have. They offer human and synthetic hairpieces. An actress like Mena Suvari is probably going to a salon for hair extensions.

With all this in mind, I won't be shaving my head anytime soon, though I have been told I look like Mena Suvari. Would I look as good bald as she does? I don't care to find out, and I don't want to be accused of emulating Britney.
