Mending a Broken Heart

Karl Withakay
Whether your a man or a woman, a broken heart is a rough thing to deal with. I'm not going to sugar coat it. Don't be disillusioned in thinking you can "get over it". You won't ever get over it. You're just going to learn to deal with it. I'll help you get started.

A Journal

Let's start everything off by starting a journal. Yes, a JOURNAL! Don't roll your eyes either. Every day, write down how you feel. Halfway through this healing journey, you'll want to go through and read your past entries and you'll be able SEE how your healing is progressing. Go ahead, write down today's date and start. "Today I feel.....". "I feel like this because.....". Just write whatever you feel.

Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind

Remove any photos on the wall of your ex or (worse yet) your ex and you together. That little 5x7" photo of the two of you on the hotel balcony in Cancun? That too. I don't recommend throwing them away or burning them. Pack them away in a box and stow them in your closet or attic. If the breakup wasn't nasty and the two of you didn't end with mutual middle fingers extended toward each other, send the pictures of your ex to them. Don't send the pictures of you AND your ex though.

Do Some Things For YOU

I'm sure there were a few things you always wanted to do but your ex asked you not to. Well do those things! Guys: Did you always want a tattoo of a scantly clad female form on your right arm? Thumb though the yellow pages, find an artist and get that tattoo! Ladies: Were you ever tired of dealing with your long hair that goes down to your bum? Did you always want a short hair cut but your man liked it long? Look up your lonely hairdresser and get that haircut! She misses you!

Get Away

If your funds permit, take a weekend getaway somewhere. Better yet, if you have some vacation time at work, take it and take a major trip. Getting away (preferably to a place your ex never wanted to go but you did), will do your heart, body, mind, and soul a LOT of good.

Take Up A Hobby

Go ahead. Learn how to play guitar. Get some carving tools and hunks of wood and start carving. Draw or paint. These kind of things keep your mind active, relax you, and stimulate your senses.

Now if you noticed, all of the things I mentioned in this article will do you a world of good on dealing with your broken heart but they will also allow you to work on yourself. Rinse and repeat as necessary. Good luck.
