Menopause and Hot Flashes - Symptoms You May Not Know About

Bev Cohen
Menopause and hot flashes! Not all women experience hot flashes when going through menopause, but many do. And there's a lot written about other symptoms of menopause such as anxiety, depression, mood swings, fatigue, weight gain, dizziness, osteoporosis; the list goes on and on. But there are a few other symptoms you may not have heard about and might be interested in knowing.

Hot Flash Shocks

Let's start with hot flashes. For some women, the moment a hot flash starts, it feels like all the nerve endings in the body are experiencing electric shocks. Another way to explain it is it feels as though thousands of mini firecrackers are exploding inside the entire body, from head to feet. It's enough to make some women jump up in an effort to escape the momentary torture.

Rashes

Rashes are directly related to hot flashes. Since hot flashes often create sweat, from mild to drenching, the constant moisture may eventually cause rashes in certain places, no matter how many times you change your clothes. An example would be under the breasts. The moisture gets trapped there by the overlapping skin. Even with night sweats, to some degree the moisture still gets trapped. Eventually a rash may develop that is difficult to get rid of since the ongoing hot flashes are creating it.

Constant Hot Body Temperature

For some women, body temperature is uncomfortably elevated during menopause. Not to get this mixed up with hot flashes. Feeling hot all the time is a separate symptom of menopause. A woman may experiences hot flashes in addition to the raised body temperature, and when the hot flash subsides, the intense fire is gone but the hot body temperature remains, always.

With these unrelenting menopausal symptoms; sometimes lasting for years and for the very unfortunate, forever; it's really not surprising that some women experience depression and anxiety.
