Menopause is one of the most dreaded stages in a woman's life. It affects her physical appearance as well as her emotional well-being. Most of the people around women who are undergoing the menopausal stage are also affected by the effects of menopause, especially when she is experiencing hormonal imbalance wherein she is overly sensitive, has severe mood swings, and is highly irritable. This is why it is important that the people around women who are undergoing menopause be informed about the condition so that they could help her deal with menopause and at the same time understand her. It is very important that the people around make her feel loved and gives her all the support that they could give in order for her to cope up with the effects of menopause with ease. Among all the effects of menopause, menopause night sweats and hot flashes have been the center of a study that was conducted recently.

It was noted that 51% of women who are undergoing menopause is experiencing menopause night sweats and hot flashes. Among the 866 postmenopausal women who were studied and interviewed by the group who were conducting the study, those who had hot flashes appear to have decreased their mortality rate by 30% thus they live longer than those who did not experience evening sweats and hot flashes.

Evening sweats and hot flashes are due to the interaction of the hypothalamus, pituitary glands and the estrogen producing ovaries during menopause. When the size of the estrogen-producing ovaries decrease, the level of estrogen also decreases and as a result, there is an increase in the pituitary and hypothalamic hormones.

The hypothalamus is a part of the brain that controls the body temperature and it is also responsible for producing the hypothalamic hormones. When it is overly active, it signals the brain and the body, thus the woman will feel heat sensations particularly on the neck, face and on the chest.

In some cases, hot flashes and evening sweats may become severe and women who are experiencing the symptoms may need prescription medicines. It is advisable that you consult your doctor if you are experiencing excessive evening sweats and severe hot flashes.

There are instances wherein the symptoms may not be related to menopause because it can also be a symptom of other medical conditions such as over-active thyroid or undiagnosed cancer. If you are experiencing episodes, it would be great to visit your doctor and have a professional opinion regarding your condition.

Menopause is a stage in a woman's life wherein she needs all the help, love and understanding that she could get from the people around her. The symptoms are difficult to deal with, but with the recent study, complaining and experiencing menopause night sweats and other symptoms may be worth it if it could help you in living your life a little bit longer.
