Men's Sexual Health: Does it Involve More Than Biological Factors?

Everyday Considerations

Dan Reveal
The biological guidelines of age and family history, for example, are important in determining men's sexual health and, as a direct result of this health, the actual potential of sexual performance.

This is not to say, however, that there aren't other psycho-social factors which are related to men's sexual health. These factors also contribute to sexual performance in ways that are perhaps more subtle, even as they are found in everyday life.

Biological Factors and Men's Sexual Health

Biological factors probably play the most commonsense role in men's sexual health. It only makes sense that those men who are in better shape can have sex on a more regular basis.

For example, good circulation is an important part of sexual performance because sufficient blood sent to the genital area is necessary for sex. This good circulation can be achieved through regular exercise and by taking Omega-3 fatty acids and eating a balanced diet.

Losing weight also increases testosterone which leads to an increased sex drive.

Psychological Factors and Men's Sexual Health

As suggested, there are psycho-social factors which are related to men's sexual health. These factors might require a bit of imagination to recognize them, and yet they are found in everyday life.

Picture the man, for example, who is sitting in a restaurant. He knows that he has been on a good diet and feels that he is physically attractive.

Wouldn't the mere psychological factor of being self-confident contribute to his sexual health, demonstrated as he becomes flirtatious with the waitress who also finds him attractive?

Mens' sexual health can become psychological in nature due to the biologically fit man's increased willingness to act upon his sexual urges. He is not just sexually healthy, he has the favorable mental state to become involved in human relationships.

Social Factors and Men's Sexual Health

Social factors also contribute to men's sexual health, although, as in the case of psychological factors, they are not as commonsense or tangible as biological ones.

In trying to picture social factors as they influence men's sexual health, think of the favorable interactions that take place between similar kinds of people.

Wouldn't a sexually healthy man be more predisposed to meet a sexually healthy woman since they both go to the gym and to health food stores?

Social factors can contribute to men's sexual health in this way because interaction is a necessary beginning to pursuing dating relationships.

Psychological and social factors which influence men's sexual health are seen in terms of their results more than in their potential as biological factors of men's sexual health are.

In sum, men's sexual health is certainly derived from good health in general. Psychological and social factors, however, also play a part in men's sexual health.

This is because these provide the way to actually act upon the good sexual health that is potentially present.
