Men's Soccer Programs in Texas

John Vann
Though it is known as football in many other parts of the world, the traditional game of soccer is enjoyed by many in the United States. With its close proximity to the country of Mexico, it should come as no surprise that Texas boasts many men's soccer leagues, most of which are based out of the state's many colleges.

Originally founded in 1849, it wouldn't be until 1876 that Austin College was relocated to Sherman, Texas, which appeared to be a more viable area for the institution. Austin College has offered many sports leagues over the years, including men's soccer in the present day. Running through the months of September, October, and November, men's soccer at Austin College is a great extracurricular activity for both players and fans alike.

Known as The Comets, the sports teams at the University of Texas At Dallas are diverse, competitive groups of players that know what it takes to succeed. With a final 2009 record of nine wins, seven losses and 3 tied games, the Comets aren't the top-rated team in men's college soccer, but their never-say-die attitude demands respect nonetheless.

Founded in 1910, West Texas A & M University has always been a contender when it comes to college sports '" and their men's soccer team is no exception. With a season that runs from September through November, the West Texas A & M Buffalos lost only two soccer matches in the 2009 season with a final record of 15 wins, two losses and two tied games. Perhaps even more of an achievement, however, is the fact that the men's soccer team at West Texas A & M University managed to hold their opponents to zero points in a total of 11 out of their 15 victories.
