Mensa High IQ Society: How to Take an IQ Test and Become a Member
It's Easy to Become a Member...aside From the High IQ Part!
What is Mensa?
Mensa is a High IQ Society made up of people whose IQ is in the top 2% of the population. That might sound daunting, but have you ever been in a group of 50 people and thought you were the smartest? Well that's good enough. 1 in 50 are intelligent enough to join.
How Do I Find if my IQ is in the Top 2%?
It'll cost you $30, but Mensa offers IQ tests in most areas. Mine was only a few miles away from my home. There are lots of locations, which makes taking the test very convenient. They even supply you with the pencils!
Sadly, you don't get to know your actual results of your Mensa IQ test. But once you take the test, you are granted membership if your IQ is in the top 2%.
To find tests in your area, click on this link.
Can Teens Take The Test?
Yes. Your score is adjusted by age. So anyone over the age of 14 can take the Mensa test.
Want to Try A Practice Test At Home?
I don't advise it. An IQ test is an IQ test. So long as you are comfortable taking tests and filling in the bubbles, there's not too much you can practice for. This isn't like the LSAT.
However, if you decide you'd like to take a practice test, follow this link.
For $18, Mensa will send you a home test. Your score won't get you into Mensa, but the test will give you testing practice in the comfort of your home.
What if I Fail The Test?
Don't worry! If you're not in the top 2%, you are simply told you're among the other 98%. No specifics to hurt anyone's feelings and no numbers to let you know if you just missed it.
Also, there's nothing stopping you from trying the test again. I think you can take the Mensa test as many times as you want.
What Happens Once I Join?
First, you receive a membership card that you can show off to your friends if you'd like. You also then become a member of your local Mensa chapter. Your local chapter will hold events regularly where you can meet other Mensans in your area. I have to admit I haven't attended one of these events yet, but I truly intend to...one day...maybe. If you move to a new area, this benefit could be helpful to meet intelligent people in your new area. Perhaps even for networking.
To be honest though, the benefits of Mensa membership are sparse. The main benefits are simply being able to say your have a high IQ, and to put Mensa on your résumé (although this could turn off as many employers as much as it could attract them).

High scores in school made my life a living hell. They used them to expect the moon from me. if I did as well as other students getting 4.0 grades, many of my teachers gave me a c. Then explained "you can do so much better". Without tests school would have been merit based. Tests were used to tun me into a.prodject as a result in my childish mind Iconcluded that school was to babysit us and after school was for reading anything icould find and satisfying my curiosity.
IQ = 156
Can't spell feel.
????????????????
not only would it be a great comfort in your own intellectual ability, but also a way to prove to others that you are in fact smart..
i dont act that way most of the time, i dont take school too seriously, and i party a lot, but my IQ is very high, so it feels good to always have that as a backup, something that is irrefutable..
not to mention it does look really good on a resume, and its also a fun thing to have i think :)
uups i meant out of 30
And btw i finished the test for exactly 15 minutes (out of 20) ..!
OMG i scored a 156 on mensaaaa (the highest result in my group) and i can just say ,i FELL AWESOME!!!! i'm 1:100 =]=]=]
Scott, I took my test in Arlington. Moly Dubelle was my proctor. Have you met? She's amazing. I live in GA now, but that group is so much fun.
I'm a Member of Mensa. Anyone can imagine the benefits of being in a network with the brightest minds. Just look at the number of presidents and celebrities that thought taking the Mensa test was worthwhile. Networking well is a huge boost to a great career no matter what field you're in!
On top of that, I feel connected with people who understand me better or accept my opinions more readily because I say strange, off the wall, thinker-type things sometimes and well...who to better understand that than another Mensan?
The online community is great. They now have a database available for job searching/resume positing. And the journals are worth every penny. They have some really wonderful articles. PLUS you get great discounts on just about anything you're looking for from electronics to hotel rooms! I *heart* Mensa, and not one of those reasons has to do with conceit! So there.
I SCORED A 128 ON MY IQ TEST ,,I DONT CONSIDER MYSELF A GENIUS OR ANYTHING,,BUT I AM SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT IF THAT GUY HAD BEEN IN THE 99TH PERCENTILE HE'D HAVE THE ABILITY TO APPLY ALL THAT IS LEARNED IN A BENEFICIAL WAY,,RATHER THAN QUESTION WHAT THE USE OF INTELLECT IS..
