Menstrual Cramps

Remedies that May Help Ease Your Pain

Don't you just hate that time of the month? I know I do and I can certainly understand your pain. It's already hard enough being a woman without the bloating, fatigue, backache, headache, and mood swings. You get up to go to work and you cant fit in your jeans due to your swelling belly. When somebody talks to you your irritated by the sound of their voice and just wanna scream at anyone who comes near you. Not to mention the cramps that wont go away. Depending on how severe they are it may make you wanna double over and cry out in pain. Although midol relieves most of these symptoms there are other remedies that can help put your tummy at ease.

Soaking in a hot bath or lying down with a heating pad can help ease the pain. Also having your partner or friend give you a massage. Exercise can help ease the bloated feeling in your body and can also help relieve cramps by lowering the prostaglandins. Taking over the counter medicines or taking painkillers can help. Although some may be appalled at this idea having sex can help ease the tension in your body during your period. If your looking for a more natural remedy there are herbal solutions for menstrual symptoms such as Blue Cohosh. Drinking chamomile tea can help you relax and will help ease your tense muscles. Essential oils like lavender, clary sage, and geranium can help to relax muscles, calm anxiety, and help enhance your mood. The most important thing though is to keep fit and eat a proper diet by eating plenty of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and avoiding saturated fats and commercial junk foods. If you would like to know more herbal remedies you should talk to a trained herbalist.

If the pain in your body is too severe there may be an underlying problem. Increased menstrual pain can be caused by any number of reasons. Cervical Polyps, Ovarian cysts, Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, Pelvic inflammatory disease, fibroids, hormonal changes, and intrauterine devices will cause an increase in pain. I had recently had cervical polyps but had no idea that I had them at first. I had increased pain that felt more like labor pains to me. My periods were irregular resulting in me having two periods a months instead of one. I had a set up an appointment with my doctor to be examined. She had run some tests and everything came back negative. She gave me some antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory to help. It was a relief to me and the symptoms I was having cleared up in about a month. If you are having an increased abdominal or pelvic pain during menstruation I would suggest seeing your physician as soon as possible.
