Mental Habit of Fear

Fear is a myth. The spirit or idea of fear is a powerful one and one in which many of us believe. However, fear does not truly exist in our minds. We simply give in to it, believing that there must be a legitimate cause for our anxiety. However, in real life, fear is usually a combination of doubt, assumption and negative imaging. It is important to not be swayed by too many assumptions.

Neural pathways become stronger when used repeatedly. As you think about certain things repeatedly, the neural pathways will become more automatic and more resilient toward outside influences. You will not be able to change your way of thinking very easily after these mental habits have been formed. Adjust your thinking to accommodate only repeatedly positive neural connections and pathways. The old negativity will still exist, but as you focus on your positive mental habits, the previous habits will become less and less used.

Fear is an illusion.Although many people subscribe to the belief that fear is a real emotion, it is no such thing. Fear is only a survival mechanism which induces adrenaline and drains your blood down to your feet to help you in flight, evolutionarily speaking. The idea that fear is an emotion is too generalized. It is a fight-or-flight mechanism, and only that.

The mental habit of fear. When you become habitually oriented to this fight-or-flight operation, you can drive yourself crazy, mostly from being unnaturally hyped up on adrenaline all day. Even when you stop giving in to this mental habit, it can become so ingrained that a slamming door will set off a short jet of adrenaline, just in case. This constant stream of adrenaline feeding into your body creates a great deal of emotional and physical stress. If perpetuated, this constant stress on your system can reduce your ability to handle even everyday life, much less small problems which occur throughout the year.

It is important to recognize this spirit of fear within you and understand that it is not an emotion, but a primal instinct which is no longer necessary except in life or death situations. Do yourself a favor and begin working on steadily building new mental habits.
