Mental Health and Perfectionism: How it Hurts

Jenny Heart

Many people today are perfectionist. They want things done perfectly, without any flaws what so ever. If they see a towel folded differently than they do it, they feel it must be folded all over again. Times like this should be taken seriously.

There are time when doing things well is the best way. People should try to realize that while trying to do their best, this doesn't mean if something is the slightest out of place, that they should feel severely uncomfortable, and hurt someone's feelings.

The author knows some people who are perfectionist. These people for the most part only want to do their jobs well. They make it a must to complete certain task error free. The thing that the author doesn't understand is that while these perfectionists want something to be perfect, other things these same people do are far from perfect.

The author's opinion about why perfectionists tend to want somethings perfect and the other things not as perfect is because they worked too hard making the one thing perfect, and then other areas tend to get forgotten about.

The author philosophy is,' to error is human forgive divine' just like the good book the Bible states. The people of this world should think about how they would like to be treated, when they do things for others, and want to be appreciated for their efforts.

The author also wants to express about how doing jobs well, is a great accomplishment. It just should be thought about in a healthy way. Everyone on this earth is far from perfect. Everyone should remember these words daily, and with much great consideration, for all people they're associated with on a day to day basis.

Harsh words can never be taken back. People can move forward, and remember, how they treat someone, today, maybe the healing touch of love that will heal their troubled imperfect past.

People today and everyday can think about the serenity prayer. It's all about accepting the things that can't be changed, and the wisdom to know the difference. If people can think of the serenity with a clean heart, then, perfectionism will never come through their doors in their home ever again.

This is excellent advice. I tend to be a perfectionist, and it is very frustrating. I gave up oil painting because it wasn't enjoyable. It was exhausting. Every line and detail had to be perfect. I spent many hours on a single painting. It had to be perfect to the imperfect eye. Thank you for your words of wisdom and the reminder that no one is perfect - only God. We could drive ourselves insane while trying to be perfect.

Perfectionism is quite a curse to have--imagine never being satisfied with anything! How could you ever be happy? I feel sorry for people like that.

article is so true, I know I was once a perfectionist until I realized how people could even stand being around me. It is amazing what your friends put up with, I have just been blessed for real good people in my life. Good article

Nicely done, Jenny. I am far from a perfectionist! My laundry folding standards definately don't measure up to someone. Can you guess who?

Jenny, this is just a beautiful job and this is a prayer that I often need to recite. God bless you my friend. You have endured much yet retain the joy of the Lord. I am not sure if I could be as strong as you.
