They can be cruel, however they can also be polite. What you think is how you are going to feel. The statement, "The mind is a powerful tool" is NOT to be taken lightly. Don't let somebody have the privilege of changing your mood in a negative direction (not even yourself), thus staying on top of your cognitive patterns. It goes along with that saying, 'If one believes that they're going to fall down the stairs, then they are most likely going to fall down the stairs". I can see how this particular example might be a little controversial, but we must remember it as a metaphor. If you say "I can't", that is what is going to fill your mind; fill your being ... and you will believe it, thus making it very difficult for you to accomplish your goals and dreams.
Some people may turn to drugs or alcohol to subdue their emotions for a short period of time, but trust me, my friend, you aren't going to get far with that. It is said in every rehabilitation center that doing this leads to one of three things: Incarceration, Insanity, or Death!
Personally, I have a mental disorder with a dual diagnoses of recovering alcoholism. I am not ashamed to say these things because I am in "remission", and because of my difficult episodes, I am a stronger person!
Even in the non-afflicted person ... Emotions are STILL inevitable.
Just Remember
Negative Thoughts = Negative Emotions = Negative Behavior (and sometimes it can just keep "circling")
Negative Behavior = Negative Thoughts = Negative Emotions = Negative Behavior (and on and on).
HOW DO YOU BREAK THIS CYCLE?
You muster up enough courage to yell at yourself and shout out loud, "STOP, I will not think this way. I MAY feel like crap, but I refuse to let it get me down FURTHER. From this moment on I will think positively." Repeat mantras to yourself every time you feel your thoughts getting out of control. Then, it is best to get busy in things that you enjoy - because if you don't - it can lead to depression. Soon, you will believe in self-hypnosis if you don't already.
