Meow Mix Original Dry Cat Food Review

I started using this product four years ago after taking in a foster cat. At that time, the prior owner warned, "Oh, by the way, Alex will only eat Meow Mix." Alex is an extremely large orange cat that has numerous unresolved behavioral issues. While he may be difficult to handle at times, there is a certain charm about him. In all likelihood, he'll never get adopted out. Therefore, I've been purchasing Meow Mix original dry cat food primarily for the last few years.

The most positive benefit of this cat food is that it appears to be highly palatable. Not just with the foster cat, but my other cats seem to enjoy the taste. The original formula has a combination of chicken, turkey, salmon, and ocean fish flavors. Besides the Meow Mix original dry cat food, you can find it in Seafood Medley, Hairball Control Formula, Indoor Formula, Kitten Li'l Nibbles, and Wholesome Goodness with Chicken, Tuna, and Vegetable Medley. The Meow Mix original dry cat food comes in approximate sizes of 3.5, 7, and 16 lb. bags. The price is inexpensive, at a little over a dollar for each pound. It's convenient to buy, as it's found at most grocery stores. Even so, there is one major problem with this cat food.

Meow Mix original dry cat food really isn't that nutritious. If you read the ingredient label, you'll discover that it's mainly corn with a bunch of vitamins added in. Unfortunately, this is a fairly common flaw with many cat foods you'll find at the grocery store. Many pet food manufacturers will use cheap grain based fillers, which doesn't make an optimum diet for a carnivore. Further, this cat food claims to be "complete and balanced nutrition" but it's full of artificial colors, and by-products. For this reason, I couldn't actually recommend Meow Mix original dry cat food in good conscience.

Another issue with Meow Mix original dry cat food, and similar quality cat foods, is that your cat may actually tend to eat it in greater quantities than a higher quality food. This means that it may not be as thrifty as it appears at first glance. Further, choosing a healthier food may result in lower costs in veterinarian bills in the long run. Every pet owner struggles with wanting the best for their pet, yet trying to save money. In my case, I've decided to switch to a higher quality cat food.
