Will You Buy This Car?

Have to admit that the 2010 Mercedes SLS AMG has gained a lot of attention all around the world. Not only because it's the latest classic car from Mercedes - AMG, but also due to its special design. And if you happen to be in Europe this Monday (16th Nov, 2009), you have chance to buy this car, with a lower-than-expected price.

The 2010 Mercedes SLS AMG is designed to be a modern 300SL Gullwing revival. This car has a classic long hood, and the passenger compartment is close to the rear axle as the rear of the car is rather short. The special feature of SLS is the wing doors that will sing open upwards, which is different to a mix of upwards and forwards like the Mercedes SLR. More carefully, the two doors can be detached to allow the passengers to leave the car in case of accidents or roll-overs.

The SLS is equipped with 6.2 liter V-8 engine and the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed semi-automatic transmission through lightweight carbon fiber driveshaft. With tweaks to its intake manifold, its lubrication system and its throttle system, it cranks out a prodigiously healthy and vocal 563 horsepower, accompanied by 479 pound-feet of torque. According to the drive test, it's unquestionably a great performer and t compromises the actual driving experience to a degree, for the mythic appeal--and the visual impact--of gullwing doors

Return to the main topic, the SLS will go on sale in Europe on Monday. The net price is €149,000, and the retail price is €177,310 after adding tax. Americans can expect a price more in line with the net figure, likely $225,000. That is a fair discount from the expected $300,000-plus price tag before. It's also a long way below the similarly powerful Lexus LF-A's recommended price of $375,000.

A list of available options and packages were also released, including a ceramic composite brake system for about $14,000; a $1,400 split five-spoke 19/20-inch alloy wheel upgrade package; a $3,000 forged 10-spoke wheel package, numerous interior and seating upgrades, a range of custom paint choices and up to $9,000 in entertainment and audio options.
