Merely a Poem

John Smither
In attempting to write

A poem called merely

For it's a word that rhymes

With many others quite clearly

Not as easy as I at first thought

No not nearly

An exercise like this should not be attempted

At least not more than once or twice yearly

In my case it taxes the brain

Or again in my case, quite severely

But as I have started with this folly

I will continue and finish sincerely

It has very little rhyme, no reason, it could also be said

That it was written somewhat cavalierly
