Mermaids Restaurant in Virginia Beach, Virginia

You Won't Find Arial Here

In Virginia Beach, Virginia, there is a local and rather small place of establishment nestled by a few larger businesses. It's plain and subtle features can still be easily seen by the road and looks like a normal bar or place just to eat. The place is called "Mermaids" and holds very much interesting surprises upon entering the 10 ft doors.

Before entering the bar, a lint roller was given to me by a roommate out of the blue. He said "you'll need to use this before we go in, don't ask, just trust me." So following suite I used the roller over my new tripp pants and bacrarci style shirt and tossed it back into his car. Upon entering this seemingly humble place, I was greeted by a rather large male who asked for my ID. Thinking nothing of it since I looked young I gave it to him, and walked through another set of doors.

The smell of cheese sticks and freshly made hamburgers trickled into my nose and some smoke. Feeling my stomach growl I entered sat down and ordered. As soon as I looked up, a girl dressed in a bikini began dancing to Marilyn Manson's "Beautiful People". What a place.

Mermaids is a bar/ restaurant/ Go-go Bar. They hold many different event's during the week. It can range from lesbian night on Tuesdays to 18 or under on Thursday (no girls dancing on this day). They aim to please the whole community with their different themes for each day of the week. Though their selection maybe limited, their food is good but nothing to take home to mom. They do offer daily specials and you can even ask the cook what he or she prefers.

Being slightly small, the establishment actually holds quite a lot. They have 2 pool tables, 10-15 tables, wet bar, juke box built into the wall, personal dance cage, and a stage to where 2-3 girls can dance at the same time.

Besides dancing, the girls are very social and over all pleasant to talk to as well as on the eyes. Most of the dancers will converse while dancing and if you want a personal dance, then all you would have to do is ask them when their break is. Though if you want to see anything more than a beautiful female dancing in a bikini, you'll have to find another place to go to since Go-go dancers aren't strippers. Sorry folks.

The alcohol served at the bar is priced reasonably and doesn't taste watered down. The bar tenders and customers are very lively and nice to talk to. The overall look of the place is a nice turn since the only lighting are black lights, (the reason why I needed the lint roller), and a few TVs around the bar and close to the entrance. They have an ATM near the jukebox if you need to pull out any money for pool, more drinks, or to tip a dancer. They also serve non-alcoholic drinks for all the responsible designated drivers or those who just prefer not to drink.

Overall this place is fun for all ages and not only shows this by the social level and ways they entertain, but rather on what they do for each age groups throughout the days of the week.
