Many fun message board games involving asking a question and therefore getting to know other people in the community. In these types of games, each poster answers the previous question and asks another along the same lines. Questions can be serious, silly, fun or just out there. Here are four types of question games along with examples.
How Many? Poster 1: How many rooms are in your house? Poster 2: Thirteen. How many pets do you have?
What's your favorite? Poster 1: What's your favorite ice cream flavor? Poster 2: Strawberry. What's your favorite movie?
When was the last time? Poster 1: When was the last time you brushed your teeth? Poster 2: This morning. When was the last time you ate fast food?
Would you rather? Poster 1: Would you rather eat worms, or cockroaches? Poster 2: Worms. Would you rather fall off a roof or get into a car accident?
ABC Games. Alphabet games are the easiest and sometimes the most fun and creative message board games. Anything there are a lot of can be posted alphabetically in the game thread. In an alphabetical game, a category is selected. The first poster posts something in the category starting with the letter A. The second poster uses letter B and so on.
Some fun category options for an ABC message board game include: movies, books, celebrities, kitchen items, boy names, girl names, geography, scrapbook supplies, holiday-related items, beach items, toys, food, dessert, stores, veggies, seasonal words, sports, flowers, Halloween costumes, back to school items, ice cream flavors, animals, cartoon characters, Disney related items, or anything related to the theme of the message board.
Word Games. There are several word games that can be played on a message board. The first one is Change a Letter. This game begins with a four letter word. Each subsequent poster changes one letter in the word to make a new word. For example, the first word is "slot". The second word could be "slow", "shot", "slat", or "blot" etc.
Another word game is Link. In Link, each word begins with the last letter of the previous word. There are two variations on this game. In one, posters must use at least the last two letters of a word to begin the next word. For example, from "crate" to "rated" to "education" to "onerous." In the other variation, a theme is used. For example, "food". One poster posts "French Fry", the next posts "Yam", the next posts "Mayonnaise" etc.
Finally, an easy word game for message boards is Association. In this game, each poster posts the word that first comes to mind upon reading the previous post. For example, if the first post was "cold" the next poster might post "ice", then "cream", then "milk".
