Metal Signs - A Great Way to Make Your Van Something Special
Decorate Your Van or RV with Reproduction Tin Signs
Lets face it, the interior of a van isn't the largest of places. It's pretty easy to just get up in the morning and ignore the mess, choosing to just close the door behind you and get on with your day.
One of the big items to remember when living in a van is good housekeeping makes life easier for a number of reasons. Not only will you be proud to show off your dwelling to others, if you get pulled over by the boys in blue they will be much less likely to hassle you when things are neat, clean, and orderly.
Does this mean an expensive trip to Pier 1 to add some color to your rig? Not unless you want to go that route. Generally hitting a few thrift stores and maybe a little internet shopping for specialized items will do the trick.
Bed linens, blankets, quilts, throw pillows and even decorative hand towels can be picked up for pennies on the dollar at Goodwill, or other thrift stores. If your short some cooking utensils second hand is cheaper than new and still works good too. Surprisingly it's not all that hard to find color coordinating linens on the used a bit market.
Next are the little items that allow your personality to show and really make the difference when declaring your van an extension of you.
Trinkets, knick knacks, and small items you usually find in homes or apartments tend to become a maintenance headache in a moving vehicle. Sure you can build shelves with lips or use Velcro to secure things, but sooner or later things will fall and get broken.
One way to make meaningful statements about you or your lifestyle is to pickup a selection of Nostalgic Tin Signs. Classic tin signs have become quite the collectible. Sure you can find original old signs at auctions, flea markets, and garage sales, but reproduction tin signs are readily available and a whole lot cheaper.
Any subject matter from comical cabin signs to military insignias can be shipped directly to you for a modest price. You can forget the rusty bullet ridden signs that have been stored out behind the barn, the reproduction signs are all brand new, with bright shiny graphics.
The biggest problem you'll have is making your selection because the variety is endless. One way to narrow it down is to choose a theme and make your choices with that in mind. Another way is to remember times from your past that are meaningful and choose signs to match.
Route 66 and Norman Rockwell signs are popular as are Harley Davidson and Indian motorcycle signs.
Whether you're into The Three Stooges or Fishing and Hunting, you can decorate your Van or RV with a selection of reproduction tin signs that will put your personality in your dwelling.

Post a CommentCurtis, this was one of the most helpful posts. I painted my van a drab beige color and though it looks clean, it had no personality. I added a few of those signs from the local home improvement store (I think the same company you shop from) and the "Coca Cola" and "American Fisherman" signs spruced it up. Walgreens had a cool "Iowa Hakweyes" sign. I put street signs (gawdy but so am I) on the overhead box (driver's side) which read "Man Cave" "Hawkeyes Blvd" and "Live Long and Prosper". The "Live Long and Prosper" street sign was custom ordered from the Internet since I'm a Trek junkie.
Your advice turned my van from just a van to - like you said - an extension of one's personality. That makes all the difference.
As always, great advice!
Very interesting write.
