Metallic Eyes and Other Lasting Beauty Trends

Trends Beating the Test of Time

For every decade there is a certain beauty style that stands out and either leaves us with the thought "what was I thinking?" or "I wish that would come back in style." The '70s presented Afros on African Americans and Caucasians alike; while the '80's donned skyscraper hair for both men and women. Even heavy metal bands such as Poison and White Snake were subject to the big hair syndrome and women loved them for it. The coiffed up do made for serious perms for women and men. The'70's and '80s androgynous styles of David Bowie and Grace Jones were hinged with edgier makeup that became a favorite among both men and women. These beauty styles made a big splash and just as some styles are a distant memory there are a few that will be here for quite some time.

Metallic Eye Makeup

Silvers and golds have come along way when it comes to metallic eye makeup but they are not the only shades available with that soft metallic style. Eye shadow palettes have expanded to include shades in pewter and bronze which has been trending for quite some time. Regardless of skin tone, gender, eye shape or age the soft shimmer works on anyone. The style is simple for day wear and an evening out due to the growing popularity of single eye shadow shades that can be used for the entire eyelid.

Colorful Smokey Eyes

At one point in the beauty industry smokey eyes were the rave. Heavy, dark colored lids was seen on every runway and in every fashion magazine advertisement but then the look faded. The beauty trend never disappeared though and was replaced with color such as green, blue and purple smokey eyes instead. Smokey jewel tones such as these offered other options for the sultry night look. The style made it's mark and was just as bold but gave eyes a pop of color with sexy attitude. Though designers teeter back and forth between black and colorful smokey eyes both are here to stay.

Stained Lips

Lipstick and lip glosses have a long history but the lip tint made headway in the '90's with enough momentum to create staying power. The use of a lip stain is more natural than a lipstick or gloss because it doesn't sit on top of the lips. Lip stains are available in an array of shades and are long lasting with no shine. Just as it sounds a stain should be applied to the lips to make the lips look "flat" and tinted and not as if there is a lot of color "sitting" on the lips.
