With Rick Rubin as the producer, Metallica returned to their heavier, fast paced music. The "snare" sounding drums used on St. Anger are gone on this album. Death Magnetic also has the return of guitar solos, which was also abandoned on the previous album. Robert Trujillo was in on the recording of the new album, the band was still picking a new bassist during the recording of St. Anger.
Death Magnetic has a total of ten songs. The total play time for the CD is an hour and fourteen minutes and thirty-one seconds. The track titles and lengths are:
- That Was Just Your Life - 7:07
- The End of the Line - 7:51
- Broken, Beat & Scarred - 6:25
- The Day That Never Comes - 7:55
- All Nightmare Long - 7:57
- Cyanide - 6:39
- The Unforgiven III - 7:45
- The Judas Kiss - 8:00
- Suicide & Redemption - 9:56
- My Apocalypse - 5:00
With The Unforgiven III, I was waiting for the similar guitar riffs that Metallica played in the first two Unforgiven songs. It doesn't feature those riffs. It's a really good song; it does start out a little slow though.
My favorite songs off Death Magnetic are: Broken, Beat & Scarred, All Nightmare Long, Cyanide, Suicide & Redemption, and My Apocalypse. All of the songs are fantastic though.
Death Magnetic is quickly becoming my favorite album since the release of ...And Justice For All. It sounds more like their older music. Long time Metallica fans will be extremely pleased with the release of this album.
If you haven't purchased this CD, what are you waiting for? I highly recommend getting Death Magnetic. Die hard Metallica fans will love it! If you're a fan of metal then it's a must have. Death Magnetic sold almost 500,000 copies in 3 days. This is one of Metallica's best albums that they have released.
