Metamorphosis

Quickpaws
A full moon rose above the lake,
Serene and white as snow,
Leaving sparkles in its wake.
I marveled at its glow.

The air was caught in winter's grip,
And chilled me to the bone.
From my mug, I took a sip
Of cocoa, all alone.

The night caressed me like a glove.
It gave me such a thrill
To see the cloudless sky above
And feel its icy chill.

Full of wonder, I beheld,
Like any other child,
The majesty of nature
That flourished rough and wild,
But I'd been having headaches.
I was sure that I was sick.
Demons laughed, and plagued me
With an evil, dirty trick.

My arms and legs grew heavy,
So I fell upon the ground,
Wet with mud and melting snow.
I quickly looked around.

No one could have helped me!
I was out there all alone,
Me against the wilderness.
I had no mobile phone.

The pain that racked my body
Made me writhe in agony.
Desperately, I found the strength
To rise up on one knee.

My only source of comfort
Was the moon up in the sky.
Unearthly howls escaped my lips,
A steady, mournful cry.

I clenched my fists in anger,
Got down on hands and knees,
And felt a transformation
As I knelt among the trees.

Muscles grew and ripped my blouse.
My clothes were torn apart.
The more I grew, the more I felt
A rage that gripped my heart.

I shivered in the winter air,
But fur began to grow
Upon my muscled body
In the moonlight's chilly glow.

An instinct rose within me,
A thirst for human blood.
I trekked in search of one good meal,
Through ice and snow and mud.

I found a student camping,
So I ripped him limb from limb.
I ate his flesh, then lapped his blood.
He filled me to the brim,
And yet my hunger still returns.
I hunt without a sound
For unsuspecting victims
When the moon is full and round.

Sometimes when my anger
Gets too much for me to bear,
I call to Terra's sister,
And my howls fill the air.

So you DON'T believe in werewolves?
Is that REALLY how you feel?
Sleep with one eye open.
You may be my next good meal!
