Method Brand All Surface-Cleaner

To Buy or Not to Buy?

Audrey Brown
After my thrilling discovery of Method's toilet cleaner, "Lil' Bowl Blue", I promised you a follow-up giving you the dish on other Method Brand cleaning products. As promised, I trotted myself over to LOWES recently and bought my second Method product, their, "Planet Friendly All Purpose Cleaner".

I'll start with the packaging. It's good stuff. I appreciate good, simple design. Because as we all know, more of than not, cleaners end up sitting out on countertops or in plain sight on shelves. So it helps if they're not a terrible eye sore. Method scores again with this particular bottle. There's nothing written on the actual bottle, there's just one simple wrapper. So guess what? Totally reusable in a way that won't confuse you. It's just a dandy little clear spray bottle when you rip the label off. So you have a free plant-mister on your hands once you're out of cleaner. It looks like something you'd buy on purpose at Target for just such a purpose. Of course, if you don't need an extra spray bottle, it's recyclable. So by all means, do recycle it when you're done with it if you don't want to keep it.

On to reviewing the actual cleaning product. I really like this all-surface cleaner. I've been using it as a counter-top spray, sink-wash, kitchen appliance cleaner, oven-top cleaner, over hood cleaner, fridge surface cleanser, and occasionally I even use it to get food spots off of the wall and the backsplash. It's definitely affective and gets the job done. It doesn't burn your skin either, which is a comfort to me. I don't have to wear rubber gloves when cleaning with this stuff, which is nice.

It doesn't have obnoxious fumes that give you a headache. The scent is a light pink-grapefruit smell. You know how some product claim to be fruit-scented, but usually that just means they smell like some awful candy version of fruit? Not this time. This time the as-promised grapefruit scent really does smell like a watered down version of the scent.

I would highly recommend that anyone who is earth-conscious go ahead and buy this product. It's a bit of a double-edged sword for people with kids though. On the one hand, it's way safer for households with children because it's non toxic. If they happen to get their mouth on something you cleaned with this, no harm, no foul. But I know that will bug some parents, especially those that like to douse everything in bleach or alcohol to sanitize things. They may be turned off by the fact that this cleanser is not a disinfectant. But I would definitely recommend it to anyone, whether they have kids or not. So Method Brand is two for two in my book. I'll let you know as soon as I try another product of theirs. Until then, it's worth the extra dollar in my book.
