Method brand shower cleaner also uses natural substances as its base and effective ingredients. For example, it uses corn and coconut derived surfactant and corn alcohol as base ingredients, and boasts ylang-ylang as its acting ingredient. I have to say that because of its more natural makeup, it smells fabulous. Almost like baby oil instead of the usual bleach or chemical smell that most shower cleaners have. I've even had cleaner-induced headaches before with Clorox products, but with this one, not a problem.
To answer the second question, this cleaner does work very well. However there's something I should give you a heads up about. Lots of people try a natural-based cleaner and pronounce it a failure on its first day. This is because products that are more natural based typically take longer to take effect. There's a note on this cleaner that says, "For extra dirty showers, expect results in 3 to 4 weeks". This is very accurate; the grime did finally start to dissolve after about 3 weeks of using this product. I had to use it every day.
This may initially sound bad, but over the long run it's good. Why? Because unlike stronger cleaners with bleach products that you use once a week or once every two weeks, you don't have to scrub when you use this one. You'll want to scrub your shower once initially, and then after that, you just spray down the shower after you use it and that's it! No more weekly scrubbing or scrubbing every few days. So what initially may look like an ineffective product is actually far more effective in the long run. Like all the other Method products I've tried so far, this one's a winner.
That's pretty much where the review of the shower cleaner ends, but I have to go on a little sidebar now about something I've learned along the way. So be aware, I'm going to go off-topic here for a minute. By the time I reviewed this product I had experienced an unexpected side-effect, increased environmental awareness. I noticed the, "never tested on animals" sign on this Method product, and I started wondering what else in my house had the, "never tested on animals" seal of approval. I was shocked to discover that almost everything on my house is in fact tested on animals. This lead me to Google, to researching which companies test on animals and why and how, and the truth is shocking. So these Method products are like a gateway drug, and even though some of the truth is unpleasant, I'm discovering that it's better to know what I have in my house and what I'm supporting when I buy them.
