MetroPCS Unlimited Prepaid Plans Start at $40

MetroPCS Doesn't Shy Away from the Prepaid Competition

Chris McCarthy
MetroPCS is a prepaid wireless carrier that has seen competition in the prepaid phone space get very fierce over the past couple of years.

Now that prepaid phones are becoming more popular and are seen as a more viable option for everyday phone users, not only the super frugal, more companies have stepped into the fray and competition has gotten greater. This tends to be a good thing for consumers, since it theoretically drops prices and increases the services each company provides in order to win more business.

This is what we've seen in the prepaid wireless world. More competition. Lots more. Between TracFone's affordable Straight Talk plans (which are sold online and on land at over 3,000 Wal-Mart locations) and Boost Mobile's fierce Unlimited plan ($50 per month for unlimited everything), MetroPCS has its work cut out for it.

So MetroPCS basically chopped down the prices of its Unlimited prepaid plans. The cheapest MetroPCS plan is $40 per month. For the low price of $40, MetroPCS customers get unlimited local calling, unlimited nationwide long distance, the full voice mail package, unlimited text messaging, nationwide calling, unlimited picture messaging, and unlimited web access.

The $45 MetroPCS Unlimited plan comes with a few more services, and of course, as the rate moves up more and more services are offered. For $5 more than the $40 Unlimited plan, customers get unlimited short codes and alerts, unlimited pocket express, and screenIT. Pocket express is an easy way to get the day's current events, news, and sports updates. ScreenIT is a feature that lets phone users see the name of the person calling them before they pick up the phone.

This plan also comes with MetroPCS' GPS system and, what is probably the most interesting feature, unlimited international text messaging. People who send frequent text messages to people in other countries may be very interested in these MetroPCS Unlimited plans.

Another thing MetroPCS has done is lowered phone prices and has even offered promotions for free phones. At the time of this writing, MetroPCS customers can get a free Samsung Stunt to use with the service. It's always nice to get a new free cell phone even though the Samsung Stunt is very basic.

You can find other cashback, rebate, and prepaid credit card deals on phones from MetroPCS. Another current promotion is for the Mister Cartoon Moto VE220, a colorful, stylish looking phone. There are quite a few other affordable phones in the MetroPCS prepaid lineup. One new phone, the Samsung Caliber, promises to be a popular smartphone with this service. The Samsung Messager 2 is another phone option for those looking for a more basic messaging phone.

Free phones and affordable unlimited prepaid service are both great things, but they don't matter at all if you are in an area where MetroPCS service isn't strong. It is always a good thing to read service reviews (and especially local reviews if you can find them), and you should always study coverage maps.

There are a lot of great prepaid plans out there since there is a lot of competition in the market right now. Boost Mobile, Straight Talk, and TracFone all have interesting prepaid services that a lot of people are purchasing, but MetroPCS has some services that will attract a lot of new customers.
