Mexican Christmas Ornaments and Decorations

Kathi Downs
Because of the internet, and because world travel has become so easy; cultural diversity during the holidays has become something that a lot of people like to show during this season. Our neighbors to the south of us celebrate Feliz Navidad. It quite similar to our Christmas, but it is their time of The Nativity. They give their presents on January 6th, which commemorates when the three Wise Men came from the east, and offered gifts to the Christ Child. Feliz Navidad is a time of great celebration and festivities in Mexico. For those of us who wish to incorporate some of this culture into our holiday season, but cannot take a day trip into Mexico to purchase our decorations and ornaments; the internet is a valuable tool.

This site has just about anything you would ever need in the line of decorations and ornaments. I think they are a bit on the expensive side, but they would be 'one time' purchases. Their lighted yard decorations are absolutely beautiful.

Heralding Angel

This angel is 4' high and 7' long. It is on a frame, and can be put in the yard or on a roof. Its halo has gold lights, the angel's sash comes in red, blue or green, and its garment is in clear lights. The colors of the sash can be custom colored if there is enough time. The cost for this angel is $325.00.

Nativity Scene

This is a beautiful nativity scene, but it is quite large. It is perfect for those families with a big enough yard. It has 12 pieces: 3 wise men, Joseph, Mary, baby in manger, camel, donkey, dog, 1 shepherd, palm tree and a stable. The stable is 6'3" high, with a width of 7'3". The cost of this nativity scene is $1000.00.

Anything you might need, in the line of ornaments, can be found here. You can find many different hand-painted clay ornaments of different sizes, ranging in price from $6.62 to $10.86. Because they are made of clay, they are kind of heavy for a tree, but work nicely as ornaments for a centerpiece or mantle.

If you prefer glass decorations, there is a large selection of hand-blown glass ornaments, of different sizes. One thing that really impressed me was a large glass ball ornament. You can get this in 12" to 18", and is perfect for a patio or deck.

There are many small decorations that would be lovely on a tree. My favorites are the 'Mariachi.' A box of two costs $26.36, or you can get the mini's for $29.66 for two pair. They are so cute!

If you prefer a more rustic, homemade look to your ornaments, here you can find many different shapes and styles of hand-woven straw ornaments for $15.95. Because they are lightweight, they can go on the ends of your tree branches, where a lot of people like to put their ornaments.

http://www.walmart.com - Walmart

Those of us who do a lot of shopping at Walmart, are aware that this chain of stores gets their products from all over the world. But if your purpose is to emulate Mexican decorations, Walmart has a Nativity Scene for only $45.00. It has a fold-out easel back for easy standing, and also includes ground stakes. Its' scene is Mary and Joseph, with the baby in a manger, with a large star up above. At night when you turn the lights on, you don't notice the blue background. What you do notice are the small twinkle lights, that really do look just like stars. It is really pretty, and is perfect for the smaller yard.

Enjoy shopping for your Mexican decorations and ornaments, and remember; it's all about the spirit of the season.

Feliz Navidad!
