The Mexican restaurants in Dallas are expanse, due to its close approximation to the Mexican border. However, the restaurants that follow are not your regular run-of-the-mill places. These restaurants take their Tex-Mex and Mexican dishes very seriously. Some of them even travel a little further south to Mexico to Central America for their dishes.

At this eatery, you are able to enjoy the tried-and-true staples of Mexican food such as tacos and enchiladas. However, they specialize in a multitude of dishes made from beef, chicken, and shrimp. One of the favorites from the menu is the shrimp flautas, which are available in an appetizer or regular order. Do not forget to try to sopapillas. The average price of the males is between $10 and $25, which includes appetizer entrée and dessert. Hours are Monday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

This restaurant offers some of the freshest Mexican food in the city. The combinations of enchiladas are endless including beef, chicken, and cheese, which are then covered in chili, tomatillo, Ranchero sauce, mole, or sour cream sauce. The prices range from $10-$20 for the full meal. Hours are Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday through Saturday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Blue Goose has the atmosphere of many other restaurants along lower Greenville. With a nice sized patio situated just perfectly for people watching, the Blue Goose Cantina has a wonderful vibe. The ceviche, from the appetizer menu is a sort of Mexican shrimp cocktail and that enhance shrimp, onion, pepper, tomato, and cilantro marinated in line juice. Prices range from $10-$25 for a meal. Hours of operation are subject to Thursday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.

Cantina Laredo - 6025 Royal Lane, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75230 - 214-265-1610

This establishment topped the list when it comes to the atmosphere. Dim lighting and an appealing decor begins this wonderful experience. One of the most different things you will find on the menu is the quail fajitas as well as the roasted goat. However, there are plenty of the regular Mexican foods such as tortilla soup and tacos. Prices range from $10-$20 for the entire meal. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

El Ranchito - 610 W. Jefferson Blvd, Dallas, TX 75208 - 214-946-4238

This restaurant features live music, which gets one in the mood for the savory items on the menu. A popular item on the menu is cabrito a la parrilla, which is grilled baby goat. This item is kept warm while on the table. They offer some of the freshest handmade corn and flour tortillas that we have ever tasted. This restaurant is a little higher priced than other restaurants serving similar fare in that full meals including appetizers entrées and desserts range from $25-$50. The hours of operation are Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Gloria's is not your standard Mexican restaurant. This is because although they sell Mexican foods such as tacos and enchiladas they specialize in Salvadoran foods such papusas and tamales wrapped in banana leaves. The tamales are wonderful and that they are much smoother and texture than the Tex-Mex version and a stuffed with chicken and potatoes. A meal will run between $10 and $25. Restaurant hours are Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Luna de Noche - 8687 North Central Expressway, Dallas, TX 75225 - 214-389-9420 - 7927 Forest Lane, Dallas, TX 75230 - 972-233-1880

Luna de Noche is a contemporary take on the Mexican restaurant. Many of the menu items feature pecans in various states. Portion sizes are generous in the mixed drinks are first rate. The mango margarita is a favorite. The wait staff is always on top of everything, which will entice you to return. Prices range from $10-$25 for the entire meal including the drink. Restaurant hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Mariano's Hacienda - 6300 Skillman St, Dallas, TX 75231 - 214-691-3888

Mario Martinez who is said to have created the first margarita in 1971 at the original restaurant in Old Towne owns the restaurant. Thus, the margarita is not to be skipped. The meal begins with two salsas, one tomato-based and very mild and the other made of chiles, tomatillo, and several other ingredients that pack in a lot of heat. Meals range from $20-$40 including drinks. The restaurant is open Sunday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Most of these restaurants feature Mexican inspired drinks as well as desserts to help feed the cravings that call to you from beyond the border.
