Once you have sat down and listen to the conversations around you it is easy to notice that most of the patrons are regulars and come to eat twice a week or more. The wait staff centers around a small Italian family that are all involved either waiting tables, running the wine bar, or cooking in back. They are not always very talkative which is a drawback however our waitress had a very thick accent and we didn't understand her very well which could be part of the issue. They will assist you in choosing a perfect wine to pair with your meal and even their house white is delectable.
Every dish we had at Mezzaluna was delicious. We had Carpaccio for an appetizer, which is a raw but cured beef that has been sliced exceptionally thin and then placed on a bed of greens with olive oil, herbs, aged balsamic, and fresh grated parmesan. It was delicious, so much so that the plate was cleaned even with our main meals on the way. The meat was exceptionally tender and I have yet to have aged balsamic vinegar with that rich and flowery flavor. They also have other appetizers which looked delicious such as calamari and Rollantine which was Eggplant stuffed with goat cheese and baked. Dinners include a chicken stuffed with prosciutto, asparagus, and cheese, than sautéed in a Marsala Sauce. They also had classics like spaghetti and tortellini. Dessert also did not disappoint. They had a Crème Brule that was very creamy with a nice sugary crust. Lastly and absolutely essential with a great Italian meal is coffee, and their coffee was rich and an absolutely perfect ending to my creamy dessert.
Although the service could have been helped a bit the authentic food and wonderful selection of wines clearly made up for this. The prices would keep me from visiting every week, however for special occasions this little bistro is perfect. With the size of the restaurant it is wise to make sure and make reservations so you are certain to have a table.
