Miami on a Budget

Donna Cosmato
In today's tight economy, most travelers are looking for a budget-easy vacation value. Doing Miami on a budget can be a economical way to beat the high travel cost syndrome. In general, Spring Break and Christmas, as well as hurricane season, are times to avoid. Late spring is historically a budget-friendly travel time.

Miami Lodging

Miami offers an assortment of hostels for the budget conscious. The Clay Hotel has private rooms for an average of $65-$75, with rates being even cheaper during hurricane season. South Beach Hostel offers free breakfast, a full bar until 5 a.m., and full restaurant service from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. With rates from $27 for a dorm room to $70 for a private room, this hostel will be easy on your Miami travel budget. Miami Budget Attractions

Everglades National Park is a must see! This huge, 1.5 million acre national park offers activities such as; hiking, bird watching, fishing, boating, and camping. Guided tours are also available. Try an Eco tour, or maybe a kayak or canoe trip. The Everglades National Park website is: www.nps.gov.

Miami offers a wide assortment of other things to do like windsurfing, scuba diving, riverboat cruises, and sightseeing tours. If you like the nightlife, then head to South Beach. You'll find low prices on quality entertainment. Shopping is also good in the South Beach area. For more information on sightseeing tours, try EcoAdventure Tours at 305-365-3018 or Miami Seaquarium at 305-365-2531.

Cheap Eats on the Beach Beat

For more food choices than your brain can absorb, try www.miamibeach411.com or www.tripadvisor.com. Ask the local what restaurants they prefer, or check out strip malls. You may just find a hidden gem! The Transit Lounge and Calle Ocho offer food and music.

Miami Budget Airfare

For deals on all inclusive packages, you may want to use a travel agent, rather than try to wade through the volumes of Internet information. If you are not locked into a specific travel date, bidding on airfare may work for your budget. There are many discounts and rebates available, but take time to research the companies and their legitimacy. You don't want to be scammed out of your hard-earned travel funds.
