Todd Jacobs
The Miami Dolphins may be awful on their home field but they travel well and they will face a hot New England Patriots team in Foxboro on January 2nd. Chad Henne does not strike fear in any defense but he is capable of managing this game against the New England Patriots. Henne threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns against the New England Patriots in a 41-14 loss in Miami. The New England Patriots have clinched the AFC East and the home field throught the NFL Playoffs but they are not the team that will coast into the playoffs with a first round bye.

Miami Dolphins Defense vs New England Patriots Offense

The Miami Dolphins defense was not over matched against the New England Patriots offense. The game was lost on special teams and some key mistakes by the Miami Dolphins offense. The Miami Dolphins held Randy Moss without a catch in this game and they held Tom Brady to 153 yards passing.

The New England Patriots offense was contained for 265 total yards and was largely ineffective compared to better performances this season. The Miami Dolphins defense has been keeping opposing running games to just under 100 yards per game and their pass defense has been tough also. They are only allowing 200 yards per game to opposing NFL quarterbacks.

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots offense have been running up scores on fellow NFL competitors and although they lead league in points per game their offensive numbers are not especially impressive. The running game of the New England Patriots is averaging 112 yards per game and their passing attack is averaging 242 yards per game. The New England Patriots offense and the Miami Dolphins defense are very even in this game and neither has an edge.

Miami Dolphins Offense vs New England Patriots Defense

Offense is the downfall of this Miami Dolphins team. Chad Henne has yet to impress in the quarterback position and the Miami Dolphins are averaging just 217 yards per game. The wildcat offense has lost it's luster with the rest of the NFL and the Miami Dolphins running game is now averaging 103 yards per game. This is why Miami is not in contention this NFL season.

Defense has improved greatly for the New England Patriots over the second half of the NFL season. They now have a better handle on their secondary and they are not giving up the big play late in games. Patrick Chung is playing linebacker much like a young Teddy Bruschi and the young New England Patriots defense is learning the difference between aggressiveness and laying back off the ball. The New England Patriots defense has the edge over the Miami Dolphins offense.
