Homemade Christmas Holiday Wraps
I first made these holiday wraps when family came to visit us in Miami for Thanksgiving. I made these whole wheat wraps, and they were a hit! Because of the whole wheat flour, the wraps are a little thicker than store bought wraps. You can make a batch of these the day before your Christmas dinner, save them in the fridge, then quickly warm them up before your Christmas guests arrive. The whole wheat wraps are best warmed up in a microwave or in the oven (set at 350 degrees for less than fifteen minutes).
Save tons of money with this recipe. The recipe below yields over a dozen large Christmas Holiday Wraps. An entire bag of whole wheat flour can make dozens and dozens of wraps for less than $5! Extremely filling, most of your Christmas guests will find themselves full after only one or two stuffed wraps.
Ingredients
1 cup warm water
2 cups whole wheat flour
pinch of salt
2 tsp baking powder
1 tablespoon extra olive oil
Optional: Cumin spice for flavor
1. Pour Whole Wheat Flour into bowl. Meanwhile, heat an ungreased pan on high. (I use a grilling pan).
2. Add salt, baking powder, spices, and sift.
3. Mix warm water and olive oil, and then pour into bowl.
4. Mix ingredients until dough leaves sides of bowl. (Add extra flour as necessary).
5. Flour a flat surface and knead the dough.
6. Separate the dough into 6-8 balls.
7. Flatten the balls with rolling pin.
8. After rolling out a tortilla, place it in the heated pan.
9. Flip tortilla when bubbles begin to rise (about 30 seconds).
10. Continue with other dough balls.
Once you have mastered making your own Christmas Holiday Wraps, you can quickly cook up two dozen in less than an hour.
Serving Christmas Holiday Wraps
I prefer setting up the wraps buffet style. Set up plates, utensils, and a warm batch of whole wheat wraps at one end of the table. Place the meat, vegetables, and condiments in that order on the table.
Delicious Christmas combinations can be anything from a delicious turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce Christmas Holiday Wrap, to a sophisticated salmon dip and watercress Christmas Holiday Wrap. You can also opt for more international Christmas fare by making curry chicken and vegetable wraps or a Cuban fried pork wrap with fresco salsa.
The possibilities are only limited by your imagination!
