With all the new technology out these days it's kind of hard to imagine what it must have been like to kick back and listen to a 45" vinyl. My generation barely remembers what a cassette tape is let alone a 45" record. Thank goodness for local independent music stores which provide the masses with rarities from yesteryear all available in the form of vinyl records.

Miami boasts quite a unique array of independent music stores. Whether you are a hippie at heart, a hot shot DJ on South Beach, a hipster, or just visiting Miami's independent music stores have something for everyone.

Yesterday and Today Records: Claiming the title of the oldest record store in South Florida, these people know music like no other. With a helpful staff and an impressive collection of 45s in all genres, Yesterday and Today Records is for serious music aficionados. Although you will find anything from gospel to world music, Yesterday and Today specializes in folk and psychedelic music from the 60s and 70s.

Independent Music Store for Indie Labels

Sweat Records: This is the baby of independent music stores in the Miami area. Although for only being five years old Sweat Records has made quite a name for itself. This charming store is proud to boast mostly independent labels in their collection, however they also offer the basics for those who are afraid of exploring the unknown. After you've bought you're 45s relax at their organic coffee shop complete with a fish tank and movies.

Independent Music Store for DJs

Groove Man Music: Although the rock vinyl collection may be dwindling, Groove Man Music is a premier location for the electronic bases. They have house, trance, and h sprinkled with a mix of R&B and Hip Hop. This is the place to find the hottest club mixes and the artists that perform in Miami's annual Ultra Music Festival.

Independent Music Store for the Soul

Super Soul Records: This father-son duo is a branch off of the same store in the Bronx, New York. The owner is a famous record dealer who provides the best in hip-hop, R&B, soul, reggae, and disco. This indie store also features local artists. Prices range from $1 during holiday sales to $100 for rare musical treasures.

Independent Music Store Must See For Tourists

Uncle Sam's Music: This indie store has been around the Miami Beach area for about 25 years and is a member of the Coalition of Independent Music Stores. The staff is proud to house records ranging anywhere from hip-hop and pop to the mainstay of punk. This is the premier music store for Miami visitors as collectors from all over the world flock to see the great music selection.
