Michael Angel: Mercedes Benz Spring 2010 Fashion Week

Review of Michael Angel's Collection

"You are a gift. All wrapped up in color and jewels - you are strong, sexy and a little playful. Today is the beginning of something special - Have fun, Be sexy." That was what a small board read, sitting backstage at the Michael Angel Spring 2010 Fashion Show during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Bryant Park in New York City.

Michael Angel featured silk, short, party pieces in the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Show. The models wore unique cut skirts and dresses, all perfect for showing off those long legs. Some of Michael Angel's tops showcased were one shoulder, pleated, capped sleeve, wraps, a cinched waist, and big loose sleeves. Crystals or jewels on some really made the styles feminine and flashy. Speaking of jewels, Michael Angel says his collection was about girls looking in their jewelry boxes! How cool!

The Michael Angel collection showed a dark color palette with colors like teal, lavender, and rose, on black. His fabrics had bold silhouettes, and innovative shapes that created a fresh, edgey look. Michael Angel's designs are actually images of oversized gems and jewels.

For accessories, some of the models wore huge geometric shaped earrings in dark, solid gold, teal, navy, and plum colors, really bringing out the colors in the fabric. Models long nails were painted shades that contrasted with their earrings. For example, one model had teal earrings and her nails were painted lavender. This splash of colors was another great way to further bring out the fabric colors. Big, thick bangles in rich deep colors were worn by some models, and their footwear was high heel strappy sandals.

My favorite look was a wrap-type dress that was actually too short. It was a black material with a dark red design along the torso. It had capped sleeves and a v-plunging neckline. It wrapped to the left with one fastener. The bottom part of the piece was dark with black and red colors. It's ends were frilly and flirty. When the model turned around on the runway, the rosey design from the front was only on one side of the back. The other side was solid black. The bottoms were like a mini mini-skirt, and as the model turned around, the material only went half way around, leaving the back of one upper leg exposed.

A few of these dresses would be elegant for many younger, slender women to wear to parties. Other pieces from Michael Angel's Mercedes Benz Week collection are just too short to realistically wear without the risk of exposing butt cheeks when the wind blows or when reaching. Nonetheless, Michael Angel's dress colors and floral prints, along with the oversized earrings and bangles should stand as examples and inspiration of what to wear for Spring 2010. Lavender, teal, rose, fushia, all those colors should be worn with your wardrobe, mixing and matching those same color accessories and nail paints.
