Are you interested in becoming a mentor? Do you want to encourage, develop, and help teens grow to reach their potential in life? Are you concerned about the drop out rate in the nation? If so, Michael Baisden wants to meet you.

Michael Baisden, a popular radio host and late night television personality will be in Pensacola on Tuesday March 9, 2010 to encourage, meet and sign up mentors.

Michael Baisden is the developer and spokes person for his 'One Million Campaign to Save Kids'; He is bringing this venture to Pensacola. The Michael Baisden show is heard on twenty-two of the nation's top twenty-five urban radio markets. One of which is radio station Rhythm 980, WRNE-AM 980, owned by Robert Hill and broadcast out of Pensacola. Baisden's show airs on WRNE weekdays from 2 pm until 6 pm.

Baisden is on a seventy-two city bus tour encouraging mentoring. His tour began February 17, 2010 in Dallas, Texas. His work is to host mentoring forums with local mentoring organizations and affiliates to make a strong stance for mentoring.

The tour, which is sponsored by Celestine Lewis founder of the Village and Robert Hill owner of WRNE Radio, will include a live airing in Pensacola of Baisden's show. The airing will be held at The Improv Center located on North Pace Blvd. From there, Baisden's tour is scheduled to head to The Village Youth Center on North W Street for a 7 pm town hall meeting. The town hall meeting will include local educators, city and county leaders, community activist and parents.

Local mentoring program representatives will be available to register potential mentors and answer questions. There is a lengthy waiting list of students in need of mentors. At the Town Hall meeting, representatives will try to match mentors with children on the list.

Celestine Lewis stated, "Pensacola is the perfect location for Michael Baisden's tour. With its high dropout rate, increasing youth violence, gangs and gang related activities on the rise and the lack of parental involvement, this area faces many of the same issues of larger cities. Cities much larger than Pensacola".

Lewis also stated, "We need to stop talking so much about what we should do. Because it's really simple. Families need to get totally involved in their children lives".

Baisden began talking about this endeavor a year ago. He said he was encouraged when he watched the video of the brutal murder of a Chicago teen last year. He stated that after repeated airing of the incident, he knew he needed to step up and get involved in saving our kids.

Baisden's hope is to raise $350,000 and will match contributions up to that amount. For more information call (850) 437-3336 or contact WRNE Radio at (850) 479-0980. There is no cost to be a part of this event. Becoming a mentor is encouraged.

I don't listen to the radio so I don't know this speaker, but I am shocked at the drop out rate in my local area. It's such a shame because those kids will miss so many opportunities.

Mentoring is a very, very important topic. It does as much good for the mentor as is does for the mentee. Well done. This will benefit a lot of people Malina. Well done. :-)
