Michael Douglas' throat cancer has not spread despite stage 4 condition

When people hear "stage 4," they immediately worry when it comes to throat cancer. But one of the reasons Michael Douglas has a positive attitude about his cancer diagnosis is because it has not spread to other parts of his body. As reported at CNN Health, "Throat cancer refers to cancerous tumors that develop in your throat (pharynx), voice box (larynx) or tonsils." Michael Douglas is receiving radiation and chemotherapy treatment. HIs larynx and pharynx are not currently in danger of being removed. And according to Dr. William Kean of Thomas Jefferson University, "The prognosis can be quite good for the preservation of Michael Douglas' voice for swallowing and for maintaining his career."

Assuming Michael Douglas' throat cancer can be cured, there's a deeper meaning for fans

Fans are behind the beloved Michael Douglas and want nothing more than for him to survive the disease of throat cancer. Both Michael Douglas and his wife Catherine-Zeta Jones were smokers. Sometimes the life of a celebrity serves as more than just entertainment. Michael Douglas' throat cancer gives fans something to ponder. Since as much as 90 percent of throat cancer is caused by tobacco products, fans who recognize that the habit of smoking is bad for one's health may consider quitting smoking sooner rather than later.
