Michael Dyer Commits to Auburn for 2010 Season

The Best High School Running Back in the Country Will Attend Auburn University Next Year

The Michael Dyer announcement has been made, and Michael Dyer has chosen Auburn University in a statement issued Friday morning. Michael Dyer is considered to be the best running back in high school football right now, and will surely make a huge impact when he takes to the NCAA next season. The Michael Dyer announcement was anticipated by quite a few schools that were hoping to win his services, but in the end Michael Dyer felt that Auburn University would be the best fit for him in the 2010 college football season. Hopefully Auburn will have him on the team for a couple of seasons before he makes the jump to the NFL.

Michael Dyer at Auburn University wasn't a done deal, because there were several other SEC teams that wanted Dyer to come and play for them. Among those teams that wanted Michael Dyer were Tennessee, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Florida, and Alabama. He saw something he liked at Auburn though, and that is where he will be calling home for at least one college football season. It's not often that running backs in high school are given five star ratings (out of five stars), but Michael Dyer achieved that rating from the ESPN scouts, making him the highest rated running back come to college this next season.

Michael Dyer has been given the status of blue chip prospect because of his size, strength, agility, and elusiveness on the feed. He isn't the fastest running back that will make his debut in college this season, but he definitely has a lot of talent to be shown. Yahoo writer Barry Every has called Dyer a "rocked-up ball of muscle that can bounce of defenders like a pinball." He can run the 40-yard-dash in 4.4 seconds, bench press 320 pounds, and can squat 450 pounds. Add to all that the fact that he has a GPA of 3.42 in high school, and Dyer is starting to sound like a well-rounded student of the game.

It will be interesting to see if this is the player that Auburn needs to push them over the top next season. They started out the 2009 campaign very hot, but have had a couple of stumbles along the way that have knocked them down a couple pegs. With Florida and Alabama losing their best players to the NFL Draft at the end of this season, it means that teams like Auburn will have a stronger shot at competing in the very tough SEC, and with the addition of someone with the talent of Michael Dyer, that is going to become a much easier task.
