Michael Griffith to Be Executed by Texas

Busiest Execution State to Execute 15th Inmate This Year

Texas has scheduled its 15 execution for 6 p.m. Tuesday. Michael Griffith, 56, is to be executed by lethal injection. Griffith is a former Harris County sheriff's deputy. Scheduled in June are five more executions. Texas leads the nation in executions.

According to the TDCJ website, while at the Always and Forever Flower Shop where she worked as a clerk, Deborah McCormick, 44, was stabbed 11 times by a butcher knife Griffith was carrying after he robbed the women of $400. He stole four credit cards belonging to her father, after forcing her into a room to perform sexual acts.

He was later caught with possession of the weapon and credit cards.

In addition to his murder sentence, Griffith was convicted of aggravated robbery and sentenced to 60 years. Four days after the murder of McCormick, Griffith shot a clerk twice in the head at the Guardian Savings and Loan in Houston. The clerk, who survived, was able to identify Griffith, according CHNI. Griffith also attacked an employee in a bridal salon and sexually assaulted the women.

Griffith lost his job as sheriff's deputy due to his violent history of domestic abuse. During his trial, his first wife testified that Griffith broke her ribs and injured their eldest daughter. Girlfriends of Griffith also testified that he was abusive to them, according to CHNI.

In October of 2003, Griffith's sentence was upheld, by the Texas Court of Appeals. He was also denied appeals into federal courts by the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in July 2006, and the Supreme Court also refused to hear the case.

Two psychologosts testified at the trial that Griffith would not be a threat to anyone while he was incarcerated, according to the NCADP website, but the death sentence was given to Griffith regardless.

The Texas Moratorium Group is holding a vigil at the Governor's mansion to protest the execution of Griffith. The Governor's mansion is located at 11th & Lavaca in Austin, Texas.

    To Lauren,

I worked with your Grandfather at the Sheriff's office for a few years and the time that I knew him he was very conscientious, and took great pride in his work. I left the SO in 1994 and only learned of what transpired some years after the fact. He wasn't always the person we know him as now. At one time he was just a regular guy. Who knows what happens to people? Sometimes we never know what makes them do the things they do. Good luck to you. I think I knew your Grandmom too. Are her initials LH? Or were at one time?

Well looks like they got it right on this one that dude is a wild murdering maniac certainly twisted beyond repair and why would anyone care about trying to repair that piece of #%&T or want to feed and clothe him. Whoever wants to should find another cause besides saving the devil incarnate.

Wow! How did this guy ever get a job as a deputy in the first place? His history makes you think that someone would've seen this coming. What about the ex's he abused? Did none of htem attempt to put him jail? Could them doing that have saved the lives of these other people?

I fell that this guy should be put to death, becuase he put other people to death. That should make a killer have to have the same consequence.
