Michael Jackson Battles A1AD

Holiday Season Darkens for Jackson Family

As much as I have poked fun at Michael Jackson, I am sorry to hear this latest news. Michael Jackson is suffering from an inherited condition known as Alpha 1 anti-trypsin deficiency ( A1AD).

This information concerning Michael Jackson and his battle with A1AD comes from his biographer, Ian Halperin. Prior to working as a biographer for Michael Jackson, Halperin gained fame by working undercover in the fashion industry to create a book entitled, Shut Up and Smile.

Halperin states that Michael Jackson is in serious condition from his fight with A1AD. Michael Jackson is having trouble speaking and has lost 95% of the vision in his left eye. A1AD is a condition which effects the lungs due to the fact that it involves the lack of a protein that helps protect lung function. Michael Jackson also has emphysema and chronic gastrointestinal bleeding caused by the condition A1AD, this all according to Halperin. Michael Jackson is reportedly in need of a lung transplant due to the A1AD.

According to AOL news, Jermaine Jackson was quoted as telling Sun News that Michael Jackson, "is not doing so well right now" and "this isn't a good time". One can only imagine how the family of Michael Jackson is dealing with the stress caused by A1AD. Certainly Michael Jackson has had his share of traumatic experiences for one lifetime, even without A1AD.

Let us try not to forget that even though Michael Jackson has brought much misfortune on himself, it has still been a very trying life for him. This latest development of illness brought on by A1AD, is likely to have devastated his family. They have given Michael Jackson their love and support through all his ups and downs.

According to CIGNA, the condition known as A1AD can effect not only the lungs, but also the liver. A1AD can include symptoms such as "enlarged liver, bleeding, and an abnormal accumulation of fluids within the cavities of the body". Other symptoms listed include, "hypertension, easy bruising, and abnormally enlarged vessels within the stomach or esophagus, causing internal bleeding". Apparently this may be the cause of bleeding in Michael Jackson.

The A1AD that has affected Michael Jackson has various options for treatment dependent on the response and symptoms of the patient. A1AD treatments may include, "bronchodilators, steroids, oxygen therapy and antibiotics. Perhaps Michael Jackson was on the right track with that oxygen machine he reportedly used in the past or perhaps he was already aware of the A1AD at that time.

Whatever has happened to Michael Jackson in the past, or will happen in the future due to A1AD, we must admit that he has given us many years of entertainment and controversy. The world has definitely been changed and affected by Michael Jackson. I wish Michael Jackson the best, and hope he is able to fight off A1AD and come back to lead a full life. Nobody deserves this type of suffering. Happy Holidays may be impossible for the family of Michael Jackson this year due to A1AD. Let's hope they will find pleasure and joy in the small things.
