Michael Jackson and Charice Pempengco

A Once in a Lifetime Opportunity that Turned into Stone

posh_post
Filipino child singing sensation Charice Pempengco feels bad about the death of King of Pop Michael Jackson. After all, Charice was hand-picked by Michael to be his special guest in the series of concerts that he intended to do from July 13 onwards.

Charice only landed in the runner up slot in a local amateur singing contest. However, her YouTube videos caught the eye of Ellen Degeneres who invited her over to guest in her talk show. Soon, it was Oprah who took notice of her. Then she had the chance to perform with Celine Dion. And now, she was given the opportunity to tour the world with the King of Pop.

But the opportunity turned to stone. Barely three weeks before the scheduled tour, Michael Jackson succumbed to cardiac arrest. And Charice is heartbroken. In a television interview, Charice said that she was dismayed to hear the news on TV. She describes him as "mabait", or someone with good heart to even consider her to perform with him.

Well I would feel the same way, too, if I were in Charice's shoes. Performing with Michael in a world tour is a far-fetched dream for many American singers, much less for a Filipina singer. But Charice is exceptional.

With the many accomplishments that Charice had, maybe this is one thing that is not meant for her. Too bad for Charice. Opportunities like that only come knocking once. And with Michael's case, it will never again happen in this lifetime.
