Michael Jackson Dies from Cardiac Arrest

The End of an Era

Ainsley Patterson
Michael Jackson always seemed like one of the invincible people. Hearing of his passing, first on Twitter, and then on CNN, left me feeling suddenly vulnerable.

First I woke up to the news that Farrah Fawcett had lost her long and painful battle with cancer this morning, and now I am forced to try and wrap my head around the fact that music icon, Michael Jackson, is no longer with us.

I remember watching the "Beat It" video on MTV as a kid. I watched the movie based on the Jackson 5 a million times on VH1, and I actually just recently watched it again. I remember a fan releasing white doves as the jury declared Michael Jackson not guilty. The black and white video that Michael did with his sister, Janet Jackson, played frequently on MTV when it came out. I don't know a person out there who doesn't have some memory of Michael Jackson.

Remember the kiss he shared with Lisa Marie Presley at the MTV awards?

Did you ever catch a glimpse of his kids under their veils?

Many comedians likes to poke fun at him, many mothers felt suspicious of his behavior with regards to children and even more people where fans.

No matter what your memories of Michael Jackson are, the chart-topping hits or the controversial court cases, there is no disputing the fact that he was an icon. Michael Jackson will continue to live through his musical influence and his controversial coverage in the news, much like Elvis.

We might not have understood him but we definitely idolized him.

When I think of Michael Jackson I will think of moon walking, crotch grabbing/thrusting, zombie dance, high pitched, plastic surgery, kids with veils, a house with an amusement park, innovative music videos, from rags to riches large family, a strict father, an american dream, but above all, an irreplaceable musical influence.
